About two and a half weeks ago I posted that I am working hard on decluttering in prep for a cross-country move. After several years of doing the huge cleanouts, I'm down to the small stuff, the emotional/sentimental items and wow, it is so much harder now.

But in the last two weeks I found homes for 44 of my fanzines. 34 remain but I am hopeful that perhaps some of those will find homes as well. The bad news? Is that this are zines from just one of my fandoms and many boxes of zines from another fandom remain upstairs in a closet. But still, I am going to count progress because 44 zines is a very big pile!

The other project I am focusing on is to curate the family photographs and must admit I've done no work on this project in the last couple weeks. However, I have cleared my afternoon today to sort through a large pile and make decisions on them. Last time I posted here, [personal profile] stonepicnicking_okapi had some advice from her own photo curation project, which I plan taking to heart: 1) no photos without people 2) no photos of people I don't like and 3) no photos of people I don't know.

Onward and upward!

Yes it is Monday, but I'm calling it still the weekend because I'm home sick, and I spent all of yesterday in bed as well.

What uncluttering did you achieve this weekend? Big or small, picking something up off the floor and binning it/finding it a home or getting rid of a piece of unloved furniture, it all counts!

Been a while!  I had a dry spell for a few weeks and that's okay.  Since then, I've dropped off a small bag of donations and a small bag of handmedowns.  Gave away a few kid toys.  Took care of the mending pile that tends to live in my bedroom.  I think I may have even sold a thing or two?  Most of my bubble wrap packing material is gone anyhow.

Today, I gathered up 3 toy sets and 2 are already gone.  I have two pieces left for another toy set to find, and two pieces for yet another toy set to find.  Posted another toy for free on fb.  I glanced through my closet and pulled out a few things I won't wear again/don't care that they don't fit anymore.  At some point I'll deal with the stock pile of clothes 2 sizes too small, but not yet.  It's too much.

I ripped up and discarded two booster seats and put those in the trash bin right away (cut the straps!).  Oh and I tried to clean out the pantry by making rice krispy treats sort of, out of marshmallows and some crunch berry sugar cereal.  Well, turns out those marshmallows had chocolate inside--what!!!--so I crumbled up the rest of the graham crackers to make sort of a s'mores dish?  Used up those foods before they went stale at least.

Took some things to the community closet at work.  Donated two books.  Gave some gardening stuff to a friend.

All this sounds like a lot.  It's really one or two things a day.  Today's burst of finding toy sets was a welcome distraction to the power outage!

What uncluttering have you achieved this weekend? Big or small, every thing is progress.

What uncluttering are you proud of this weekend? Big, small, important, irrelevant, what matters is it happened!

Still trying to get the habit back of weekly posts here. January has slipped past me, and here we are in February!

So, what have you cluttered this week? Something little? Something big? Something momentous?

What about January -- was it a good month for looking at clutter and making progress?

I missed last weekend entirely. oops. So, what have you uncluttered in the last two weeks? Anything big? Anything small? Have you started the year the way you hope to go on, or are you still recovering from 2021?

I sold and shipped three things!  Some recycled shipping materials, some new, all from around the house.  I used up a non-preferred soap that was given to me (thankfully, I can do this because I'm not allergic to it, just a new brand I didn't like much, but soap is soap).  Dropped a book off in a free little library.

Today's errands were to drop off a small bag at the secondhand store (three things make a donation), a small bag of handmedowns to a friend's porch, and meet up with a friend to give away a toy I snuck out of the kid's collection (from previous post).

I have one claimed fb offering and one unclaimed fb offering.  I finally took recycling out of my bedroom too, goodness that was full.

Once again, little things add up!  Keep going.  I'm fortunate that my preferred donation place is on my way to most places, so three things make a donation is an easy thing to keep up.  I did start reading some paper books with the goal of read and give away.  We'll see how that goes!

Quick post to say I've sold and shipped two things!  Two more blasted padded envelopes gone.

Eldest Child and I went through seasonal clothes and identified discards, which I will either list for sale or give away.  I hope to have a sizable bag to give to a friend this week.  Pulling seasonal clothes for both kids meant one bin empty--I'll put more handmedowns we receive in that when the time comes.  An empty bin is a nice feeling!

We're focusing on reducing food waste right now, which means muffins, croutons, and lots of tasty treats.  I love when decluttering/cleaning tastes great.

I can't claim any responsibility for this decluttering: Eldest Child identified a whole laundry basket full of stuffed animals ready to send along, and another large toy collection.  Wow!  Youngest laid claim to one item, thankfully one of the smaller bits.  Some of the loveys are heading to the second hand store when I get to it, others have been offered to local friends.  I waited a week before offering or donating in case Eldest had a change of heart.  Now it's okay to give away and Eldest has more space in the bedroom for other activities!

(on a Monday, I know, but I was too grumpy to do it yesterday)

I've been avoiding decluttering in recent times, but on the weekend managed to get back in to the swing of things, sorting various piles of second hand books, and found two duplicates, so those are in the front hall waiting for a new home. Also found a duplicate DVD, so that is in the pile as well. Need to do some actual brain involved decluttering of those shelves, but I'm pleased to have made any progress at all.

Not much energy for cleaning this weekend, but I did organize half a shelf in the pantry, break down some boxes in the garage to recycle, list a thing for sale, and add a thing to the donation bin.  Secondhand stores are opening back up in my area and the next time someone asks if they can do anything to for me, I plan to hand them the donation box and ask them to drop it off at the secondhand shop just down the road from me.

The current state of the world and the United States, concerned covid-19 and having to stay home, has not helped my decluttering.  I am sure we are healthy in this house and we do not have covid-19 viruses on our things.  Theoretically I could donate a few things (very few, not quite worth the trip) but then there's the going out part, and the second hand store is generally thought to be not quite clean on a good day..  Well, I could recycle a few electronic things at a different store, though that's still going out and we're not supposed to.  None of these are urgent errands.  Sales have dried up and I don't particularly want to offer things to friends online that I'd have to mail because that's a visit to the post office and that seems a bad idea right now.

Instead!

We make do.

We are making do with what we have.  We fix what we can.  I stitched up two rips in a coat and put the coat away.  Child will probably outgrow the coat before next winter, but the coat is ready for someone.

I tried on a shirt I really like... and it doesn't fit right.  So I put it away for future wearing by a child.  That's one less shirt in my closet.

I'm trying to use up everything in the pantry, something that's more fun and exciting than it should be.  But the meals are pretty good so far, nothing too creative yet.  I organized a few things in the pantry, put all the last-granola-bar-in-the-box-es into a single basket for easy access.  At the end of this (there will be an end), we can start the pantry from scratch again, like we did when we moved here years ago.

And now is the time to use up the good craft materials we've been saving.  That pretty yarn.  Those special beads.  That good paper.  The expensive paint and nice canvas.  Send the good postcards.  Make that model you've been saving.

Read that book you've been holding on to and see if you want to keep it afterward.  I have a pile of five books on my nightstand right now to help me remember which books to read next.  Under my tablet with ebooks, but you know.  Easier access.

And get rid of the fear.  That is something we can declutter without leaving the house.

Spouse cleaned up the garage a bit more, which resulted in a few things to the trash, some to recycling.  A kid picnic table to the curb for the pickers.  I took a small load to the second hand store.  I listed a tool for sale and some mittens for free.  I took the plastic bag recycling to the store today, which includes the plastic padded envelopes.  Nothing momentous, but it's still progress.  Keep going!

Who else is moving at a slow pace with me?  Little things here and there.

It's still progress!

Enjoy that.

This week I grabbed a piano bench from the curb because I couldn't let that go to the dump.  A friend picked it up from me on Friday.  Clutter in, clutter out.

Younger Child outgrew some shoes, so I listed one pair for sale, might try to sell another pair, give away the third?  Anyway, hopefully soon so it's a three in, three out situation.  Ugh, shoes for all occasions.  But then we're set for the next six months at least.

I added two shirts to the donation box.

Spouse had the opportunity to pick out an annual prize from employer and instead of choosing a thing, Spouse chose some (subpar but oh so good) cookies in a tin!  Spouse decided we didn't need another thing cluttering up the house.  I'm so proud.

Eldest Child and I went through summer clothing and kept some, added some to the handmedown box when I've since shipped.

I sold TWO things within an hour of listing them!  One was purchased to resell at a profit, one was an electronic toy thingy Spouse decided to part with after cleaning the office today.  To do my part to clean the office, I wound those two thrift store skeins of yarn and put them away.

Assorted personal wins:  Garage sale across the street.  I didn't buy a thing.  I visited another second hand shop and didn't buy a thing.  I purchased only necessary things at a second hand shop (water bottle because kids lose them, the thing to resell, yarn I'll use then sell the resulting item, and a CD from my childhood.  so close.).

Upcoming goals:  Work with the handed down to me clothes for the kids to condense as possible.  Return things to a store (requires a minor road trip).

After a week or so of little to no movement, I finally got dealt with some things!

I mended 3 pairs of kid pants, putting them back in wearing rotation rather than having them on my bedroom chair.  None of the mending jobs are great but they will hold while the kids wear more holes in the pants.

I took in 2 electronic things for recycling, both of which worked-ish, but not great and it's just better to recycle them, not add them to the donation pile.  No one wants an alarm clock that has a loud electric buzz when it's plugged in.  No one.

In making Valentines, we used up LOTS of stickers.  I tried to get the kids to use more before interest waned.  Oh well.  Valentine mailboxes were repurposed gift bags from a grandparent that can be recycled at the end of the day.  No sense in making fancy-ish mailboxes when the kids were barely interested in marking some additional designs on the bags.

I'm also happy to report that my zipper mending job seems to be holding!  I've had a wool coat for over a decade and I love it, only to have the zipper teeth work themselves open from time to time.  I squeezed the glider together with some pliers, which will make the teeth close better and the whole coat stays fastened.  Fix what you can!  (Did the same with a kid's coat, haven't tested it yet)
