In the last week, I (with appropriate assistance) have at least partially uncluttered the following:
  • 3 small shelves of picture books - about 20cm of children's books, some gone to new home already
  • DVD collection - about 50cm of mostly non-fiction and children's. 7 have been rehomed, the rest to go.
  • adult books - three unloved items identified. Yet to do anything with these.
  • bathroom cabinets (both the under the sink, and the wall mounted lockable medicine cabinet) - out of date medicine, several near empty boxes of sticking plasters consolidated and the boxes thrown out, random accumulated plastic containers. Also, ~1 cup of broken pegs (I always plan to fix them, and it is the cupboard closest to the washing line). Apart from the medicine, everything went into the rubbish - too hard to sort the tiny things.
and in previous week (? timing uncertain) also found 3 Vogue sewing patterns I'm never going to make, and put them in the Box To Go.

Plus, the kids are starting to bring out clothes that they don't want/fit any more, so I'm accumulating a pile of those to deal with.

Not quite one thing a day - I've had spare time, and a couple of areas where I was looking for something it was easier to pull everything out and put it back in order or we were reshelving, so it was a good time to have a coarse level cull.

Current declutter goal: have all the books on shelves once the current bookshelf repair is done (ie. we will get rid of the temp bookshelves, and the stashed books in the games room will either go on the repaired shelves, or out).

I did get a lot of new items since my last post, but I also got rid of A LOT of things! I went through some of my dresser's drawers this week and filled up a few bags with clothes. I also systematically went through the two of the cabinets and drawers in the bathroom and found all kinds of things that don't belong! And I looked through a box and a basket in my closet which had plenty of random things, but also some useful items like a jewelry box!

I've found that once I start removing things I don't need/want, it becomes easier to determine what I actually need/want. I'm finally getting some open space so I can see what I have right away, rather than having piles of boxes full of mystery items. It's nice. :)

I'm back!

Hello, all! I'm starting to get back into the groove of decluttering and down sizing my stuff. It's ridiculous the amount of stuff I have! I don't even know what all I have, so it's about time to get to it! Today I just started with my hygiene/beauty stuff. I'm going to need to clean my storage bins for all of the stuff I'm going to keep.

I'm going to need to go through my bathroom more carefully to find what's still useable and what I have multiples of, but I think I'm off to a good start so far. Another major source of clutter is going to be my clothes; I can barely close my drawers.

Here's my tally for the two weeks of August 13th - August 19th, and my cumulative progress.

Better than the last few weeks. I'm just glad ebooks aren't physical objects or else I'd have a TON more in items!

The drawer cleaning adventure is going great. I've found stuff I never knew was there, and it's starting to empty out. Soon it'll serve its purpose to store things that I actually need/want/use, rather than just storing everything I throw in it. And two weeks ago when I was selling my games to Amazon, one was missing out of the case. I had originally just pushed things around trying to find it, but when I reached in to throw out an OUT item this week, there it was! That's $6 I'll be getting soon! So this one item at a time thing is definitely working! I can also move around my showering without knocking a bunch of bottles over!

I'm still focusing on my dresser. It's slow going, but more progress has been made doing one item at time, than when I tried to sit down and just do it all. I didn't finish any of the shampoo or other products, but I should next week.

Here's my tally for the week of June 18th - June 24th, and my cumulative progress.

This was a pretty good week. I managed to get rid of the hardest items: the stuffed animals from my ex. I also cleared out plenty of broken stuff that was hidden away in various places. I've also found a ton of random things which I'm going to need to sort through. My closet and non-clothing dresser are disaster areas. Instead of tackling them full on, I think I actually will do those one, or a few, item at a time to keep my sanity.

I also just wanted to say that I really appreciate the kind words and support this community gives. You're all awesome!
