So the other large deed I did today was move the clothes racks from the basement upstairs. However, only one of them remained intact for me to still hang items on. The metal pieces of the other one was placed in the alley since the plastic connecting pieces fell apart when I moved the rack towards the back stairs.

I was originally going to contact the people that operate the donation table I mentioned July 29th to see if they wanted at least one of the racks to hang additional clothes on, but now either the city or scrappers will take care of the disassembled one. Ah, well. :/

Out with the old, and in with the new!

I emptied about half the refrigerator's contents in old food.

Grossness
Old pickles, half-used dried up jams, 'surprise! you don't like these' artichoke hearts, umeboshi and THREE containers of miso from five years ago (they're probably technically still edible, too! D:), and what used to be a bag of brussels sprouts but declined into a bag of mold...

I cleared out similar items from the pantry, too. All those stale sheets of seaweed, old bonito flakes, kombu, and expired Ikea gravy packets - in the trash!

The idea now is to ditch something if it isn't used within a week, and only have one item of each type in there at a time. If a new food is a slump and no one likes it? In the trash, clean the jar, don't buy it again.

I'm debating now whether to restock on the more seldom-used pantry ingredients I got rid of... It would be nice to have more umeboshi and miso, if they actually get used.

OK, since the first of January, the following applies:

Out:
2 bags of general rubbish
1 bag of food waste to compost bin
1 bag of paper/cardboard recycling
1 black bin bag bag of old clothes to charity shop
1 horrible dressing gown that my mum bought me for when I went into hospital returned to the shop it came from, unworn

In:
5 Wii games
1 DVD
1 pair of slippers for The Wife (exchange for the dressing gown).

I am counting the bag of clothes as one item because I'd feel like I was cheating if I put the total number of garments, but it was a full bag and there's going to be more... I hope I am right in thinking that I don't have to count food and other comestibles? Because otherwise my total is going to be even worse...

Tomorrow I shall be having a trip to the tip with my dad to get rid of general Christmas/New Year detritus (the bin men came today for the first time since before Christmas, but the same limits on how much you are allowed to throw out were enforced, which is insane) and I shall endeavour not to buy anything while I'm out, so this should put me into the nice healthy minus figures.

Today I brought home 5 Wii games and a DVD. HOWEVER. I do have a big bag of clothes to take to the charity shop, and a load of recycling to put out...
