We sorted through and donated Christmas ornaments! 🥳🎄 Now to wash out the containers we held those in and see how many can store blankets or other items! We also donated bedsheets and pillowcases to the Epilepsy Foundation.

Brought up and scrubbed out some vases, which clears off quite a few of the shelves in the basement’s former pantry. Oh, and I just recycled my copy of this year’s Packers media guide. #sighpackers_sigh

If I haven’t mentioned it yet, I’m participating in this year’s Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington Counties’ Zero Waste Challenge and will be in the Plastic-Free Challenge yet again in February.

Just washed some sheets and a blanket. Tomorrow I’ll wash the rest of them and possibly make my bed. I wish Mom would allow me to donate the Christmas items we don’t use so we’d have enough room to store blankets, sheets and other items that we do use seasonally. We’ll decide most of blankets we’re keeping after I wash them - except for one of the goose feather comforters that I know has a small hole in it since feathers keep falling out of it. That, and I’m allergic to the feathers.

I wonder why Target doesn’t ship Rubbermaid storage containers. Wal-Mart has other brand’s containers available for shipping, but not Rubbermaid. I also wish Rubbermaid listed sizes of their containers and totes. I’m planning on getting possibly two of them, but would prefer to reuse other people’s unwanted containers rather than buying new ones because I’m trying to cut down on how much new plastic we create demand for.

I did bring up a porcelain doll and more small items to sort through. Now I wish I had kept one of the larger doll stands so we could display it. 😕

I hardly ever use wrapping paper any more, and had accidentally ended up with far too much (thought I had lots of regular paper but was out of Christmas, bought more Christmas, discovered that it was actually the other way around...). So I asked my friend who works at the local foodbank, and she says they have a "help yourself" table for things that they're not giving out but which people might still want, and I'm donating five rolls of Christmas paper to her for that. Probably also some gift bags, since I never use them.

I thought I'd mention it on here in case anyone else has too many gift supplies! Obviously they need to be as-new, good condition, etc. And foodbanks don't want lots of things sitting around, so it needs to be seasonally appropriate - this feels to me like a good time to be offering Christmas materials, but in January it'll just be clutter for them...

If you don't have any personal connections, in the UK The Trussell Trust have a website where you can find foodbanks local to you who might be willing to accept them.

The other day, I cleaned out a drawer and threw out some things. I found a velvet draw string bag, took a picture and offered it on FB, to remember--wait--Spouse said something about liking the idea of all cloth gift bags instead of the paper ones we use and reuse to the death of the paper. Took that offer down right away and added this bag to our gift wrapping stash. (I have previously given away the specific bags for baby showers and such, occasions we don't often attend. I'd rather give a box of diapers than clothes or a toy. Throw a bow on the diaper box and sign the card and move on.)

Decluttering is about finding what we have and getting rid of what we don't use. I'm glad I realized we could use that bag before someone claimed it.

(Weeks ago, Spouse found a CD opener that I was thrilled to have because I've been looking for one. It's now with the rest of the stereo things. I saw them in the store for a dollar last week. Mine was paid for years ago!)

Speaking of claiming, I am slowly finding a few things to offer on FB to friends, but I need to be careful. I have only 8 padded envelopes left! What a great feeling, that I have a manageable shipping stash and people are using what I don't need.

Tomorrow, I'll ship 2 packages, drop a few things off at a second hand store, and give some more handmedowns to a friend. I plan to put 2 foodstuffs in a blessing box, 2 things we'll never use but are perfectly good and still factory sealed.

Does anyone do any special efforts prior to the gift giving holidays? I try to get the kids to give away a few things they don't play with. One child understands I give away things they don't use or wear, the other is too young to notice. I hope to give away a few toys before more toys come into the house. We avoid going overboard with gifts in December, birthdays, and other gift giving holidays, but it's still a good idea to pass other toys along so we have room to play.
