Digging in deep. Yesterday I realized I have some nearly pristine decorations that I used for a themed birthday party. Three years ago. I dug those out and am currently offering them to friends on facebook.

I still have plenty of things on counters, in drawers, on shelves to go through. But I dug these decorations out. Hidden clutter is still clutter.

In other news, I am pleased with using up what I have. No need to buy more *things* just to buy things. Working through the comsumables makes me feel rich--look at all this yarn I have! Can't wait to use it!

No need to buy more *things* just to buy things.

This is always a trial for me around school supply season. I love to buy notebooks way too much. But I took a good look at my stack this week, reminded myself that I bought them all last year and haven't used them. So no buying more, no matter how tempting.

Notebooks! I hear you. I think I gave away 10 notebooks in the last few months. Some to friends, some to Blessing Boxes. I LOVE new notebooks and now that I have only 2 lined up as new journals, I know what I like, more than pretty notebooks. Quality, not quantity.

LOL I have never been able to figure that one out myself. Maybe it's all the potential they have, just waiting.

A friend/coworker, many years ago, bought me a couple of fancy notebooks for a birthday gift, and to this day, it's one of the best things I've ever received.

The potential, I think. The idea that I could fill this notebook with deep thoughts, introspection, personal revelations. Or use it for work. But nearly all of the pile didn't work for those. And as much as I want to fill a notebook with deep thoughts... it takes me a while.

Also, friends give me notebooks, or I buy a new notebook for a specific use, and the notebooks aren't quite right, or I use 3 pages. In that case, cut out those 3 pages and send the notebook along to someone who wants it.

Oh, that's an idea. I will write in a few pages, then just leave it. Although I wonder if I'm not nice enough to pass them on. lol

I've actually seen recommendations that you should tackle decluttering hidden/long-term storage fairly early on, so you can make space for stuff that you need, but which doesn't get used so often and really should be occupying that hidden space. Instead of whatever obsolete junk you're currently storing.

So there's nothing wrong with a little digging in deep, especially if you know there are some quick wins in there. :-)

I hope one of your friends takes the decorations off your hands soon! And I hear you about suddenly figuring out you have all this great stuff to use without spending a penny -- decluttering and lots of pleasure from making use of it.

I haven't heard that! I like it, but mostly because I've been working on this decluttering thing for over 2 years and it justifies my current plan of action.

The decorations were shipped out yesterday so someone who will appreciate and use them. That's the best.

Well, I guess tottering piles of random visible junk are the priority when you first start decluttering. :-) But it sounds like you're definitely ready to start diving a little deeper.

And hooray for passing on the decorations to someone who will use and appreciate them - definitely a great feeling!
