How goes the uncluttering this weekend?

I did the seasonal clothing swap today, and gave myself the challenge of only putting away what would fit in the suitcase I've been using for years (I also had a 100L plastic tub, although it wasn't full). Much sorting later, and I have a box of clothing for the op-shop. I've also included the baby sling I've been hoarding for years (youngest is 14; my nibling, who I babysat as a Very Small, is now at school).

I did try and get rid of the box as well, but partner scotched that.

Hi, I'm new to the community. I hope it's okay to jump right in.

I've sold a bunch of books and sorted out some more to take to the shared shelf tomorrow.

Go you for letting go of items you've been keeping for a long time! Sentimental things are the hardest for me.

Welcome! Jumping right in is fine. :-)

Good work on selling the books and identifying more to go. I used to find books very hard to get rid of, but I've got a lot better about it now I've realize I have books I'll almost certainly never open again. I agree that sentimental things are hard, though.

Thank you!

I try to focus on whether I want to read the book again in the future. I do find it hard but I have piles and piles of unread books so keeping everything is not an option.

Books are very hard for me to let go of - there are over 3000 on my LibraryThing account, and that is by no means all of those I have in my house. Congratulations on your resolve and action to move books on!

I sympathize. I'm trying to read more books I already own and haven't read yet and then immediately try to decide: do I want to read this again sometime in the future? If yes it's a keeper, if not it moves on. But it's slow going because I have piles and piles of unread books.

Nice work on the clothes decluttering! And maybe the plastic tub can replace a less solid box somewhere and then that box can be used to hold things to go to the op shop?

Today I finished another book in my "reading non-fiction every day" project. It was a very long book so, although it was a fairly light read and I enjoyed it a lot, I feel like I've been reading it forever! I'm going to pass that on to my sister, as I think she'll enjoy it (and then she can eventually pass it back for me to donate it). Also more progress on (slowly) improving the garden.

Yes, read books and move them on. I wish I was better at that, but I am working on it.

Ah, yes, challencges and space restictions - I certainly need that to force decisions. You have done well.

I'm very pleased! I sold the thing for half of my (high) asking price--but considering I tried to GIVE the thing away, that's just fine! I've got a old kiddie pool at the curb for the trash collectors today, and I donated 3 pantry items we clearly weren't going to get to, to a food pantry. OH and I sent 2 things on to a friend, and am currently offering 2 things on fb. I don't think anyone will take the things in fb. One I can list on craigslist, I'm sure.
