I'm going to have to move house in the next 2 or 3 weeks. In an ideal world, I should take this as an excuse to declutter, ditch lots of the random papery guff that is cluttering up my bedroom and make moving my stuff easier. However, the sheer scale of it is overwhelming me right now. I've got a huge list of stuff to do and not enough time to get it all done.

What I do when I'm moving is I put the "donation" and "trash" containers right next to the boxes I'm packing into so I can make the decisions as I take things down from shelves/drawers/cabinets.

That is an excellent idea! Will definitely be using it for my current move.

I am finding the timer method works wonders for me. I can tell my brain, "Okay, you only have to pack/unclutter for 20 minutes, until the buzzer goes off (or the playlist ends. Then you can play for 10 minutes on the internet." Lather, rinse, repeat. If it's really a lot to do you can do 45/15 minute sets, but the 20/10s are like magic. It keeps me from getting too tired, and I can stick things in boxes for just 20 minutes. And then maybe another 20. It keeps it manageable. (Note: breaks are key. Do not work through the breaks and do marathons or you will be sad face.)

Also, http://unfuckyorhabitat.tumblr.com is magic.

I think in a timeframe that short, it's a good idea to have boxes or bags for trash/recycle/shred/donate or whatever categories you prefer and toss stuff in them that's obvious--but a full, in-depth, careful evaluation of ALL THE THINGS is probably too much to get done on top of packing in that kind of timeframe. But--even if you only get rid of some of the obviously unneeded stuff in the packing process, that's still less stuff you have to move and less stuff to go through while you're unpacking.
