Previous net: 113 out

Not counting stuff that was simplying replacing old things (like broken shredder and cruddy vacuum cleaner),

Out:

1 broken Ott-Light
6 old cell phones and chargers
1 bag of crayons
1 gross old dress dummy to trash
1 set of paper lanterns to Goodwill
1 pair pants with broken zipper to recycle
1 old comforter to trash
1 old comforter cover to recycle
1 sheet set to Goodwill
2 books to mom
2 magnets (presents) to mom
1 bottle hand cream (present) to mom (yes, I've been hanging onto presents for my mom for over a year)
4 boxes old sheets and towels (arbitrarily counted as 20 items)
1 giant bag shredded paper to trash (apparently shredded paper gums up recycling machines :( )
1 portable CD/tape player/radio
1 giant basket
1 bag of useless fabric scraps
1 box of useless fabric scraps
1 scratching post (shunned by cats)
1 cat den (shunned by cats)
1 shirt

Total out: 57

Organizational supplies in:

4 collapsible recycling bags from IKEA (one is replacing our old paper grocery sack recycling bin--we ran out of paper grocery bags, and this can actually be reliably carried by the handles--one is now holding plastic bags, and we haven't yet found a use for the other two)
1 clothes hamper (better design than previous one, which I think may be a loss)
2 sets IKEA fabric drawers for project racks

In:

1 used ipod and 3 accessories
4 towels
2 washcloths
2 hand towels
1 comforter
1 duvet cover + 2 pillowcases
1 pair of tongs
1 chair (test run to see if these chairs are good for replacing our old chairs)

Total in: 16

Running total: 113 + (57-16) = 154 out

By the end of next week, I expect 2.5 boxes of books to be out, and I'm most of the way through destashing fabric in preparation for selling/giving it away (I still have a lot of fabric, but it will be less Mystery Not-Enough-Natural-Fiber-For-Me Blends and Questionable Purchases and more Who Wouldn't Want Red Wool (Except People With Wool Allergies, Obviously)).

My partner and I went through our "tailor's eye," a giant basket of scraps that we'd gotten in the bad habit of shoving ALL fabric scraps (including useless ones into) and three out 1 large garbage bag and 1 box of fabric scraps. We're now down to a modest number of useful-size mostly linen scraps, and we're getting rid of the basket. The cats will be sad, but they'll get over it, and it will dramatically reduce visual clutter in the living room. It is also a necessary step towards clearing that wall-let so we can put up shelving and clear a different wall of bookcases (I can almost envision that couch...).

We also went through all of our sheets and towels and got rid of about 4 boxes of mismatched sheets and ratty towels, in the process discovering that we only have two complete sheet sets (!?). So we'll be buying 2 more sheet sets, but the net is a huge improvement. I'm finally starting to feel like we can see progress again....

P.S. Thanks for all the comments on my DVD case question--I ran out of brain the last few weeks to answer comments, but I appreciate them. The cases will go in the storage unit for now and then I'll reevaluate at some future date.
