My energy levels have been in the toilet the past two weeks and I haven't exactly been decluttering one thing a day, but when I write it all down, it doesn't look so bad.

To the recycling
- 2 carrier bags of #4 plastics
- dead batteries
- assortment of half-empty  plastic squash bottles - sludgy brown ribena, ick.
- old christmas and birthday cards
- 2 glass jars from pasta sauce, eaten with delicious raviolis
- Can from BBQ chili. I have way too much non-perishable food - 6'-worth of freezer, a pantry, 4 shelves, and a cupboard that aren't exactly bare, so I'm counting any food that I buy/have that isn't being used up immediately, and I'm trying to eat a few meals a week from the cupboards to clear them out.

To the bin
- carrier bag of make-up and nail varnish. I was really gutted I had to pitch all this stuff but I can't think of anything else you could do with half-used make-up - apart from use it up, which wasn't going to happen here.
- bin bag of unrecyclable trash

To work/family
- carrier bag of various teas decanted into tupperware donated to the canteen - to make inroads on my tea and tupperware mountains.
- wireless dongle mailed to my mum

other stuff
- limescale prevention thing into the loo. Ok, technically it hasn't left the house yet, but it's out of my cleaning supplies cupboard.

In
- tin of smoked paprika
- jar of asafoetida
- pork shoulder. I bought this to cook this week and wouldn't have counted it, but it ended up going in the freezer instead.
- 2.5" hard drive, bringing my total number of not-in-a-computer internal drives to 8 /o\ I need to find some time to go through them, save what I want to the ones I'm actually using, and reformat them for selling or giving away.

Total: 4 in/13 out

I haven't posted for a while because there have been changes regarding the move my wife and I were going to make. Financially, after talking to the bank and the realtors, it isn't where I want it to be in order to get top price for our house at this time, so we're going to put off listing right now. However, we don't want to lose the momentum we started in clearing out the junk, and we do still WANT to move later in the year, after we're better able to afford the improvements necessary to increase the house value (unless we end up improving it to the point where we change our minds and stay. XD)

Regardless, we ARE going to keep getting rid of stuff we're not using/needing, I'm just not sure if I should keep the 'moving' tag on here or not.

Recent stuff brought in: Japanese screen, bamboo plant, new smaller sofa, new set of dishes.
Recent stuff (given away): Old sofa, a loveseat, old dishes. (thrown out): window block (for high winds), a tray, a drawer full of kitchen utensils.

It's hard to track what comes in. We do get a lot of strange food from a local food bank and a friend who delights in decluttering her cabinets by giving us old food. To be honest, the sell-by dates aren't often hard and fast, so we take things with the idea we'll open them and determine if they're still food or not. But it's a lot. Right now, I think we have something like 6 cans of applesauce and more than 300 tubes of instant tea for water bottles. Anyway, it's hard to count food in and out, although I'm determined to figure out a way to get what we have to fit properly in our cabinets without overflowing onto the table and such.

We've had very few non-food objects come in after the new year. One late Christmas present and a book I bought myself the day before yesterday are all i can think of from the top of my head. So that's two in.

Now out. I wasn't doing very well earlier. I'd picked out several things I wanted to donate or sell, but didn't move to do anything about. But the last few days, I got busy.

I have a box (not quite full enough to leave) to donate with a lot of small things in it, including a collection of pouches I'd inherited from a friend who moved away. I threw away a broken china teapot, a broken straw purse, a hat hanger that didn't work, and shredded two boxes of papers that needed shredding. I sorted the socks and threw away about a dozen pairs (mostly mine). The donation box has a lot of things in it, but it's still less than 2 cubic feet of volume.

One thing I'm having a hard time letting go of is the larger rice cooker that seems to have lost its lid while it was in storage. I can't use it without the lid, but I'd prefer it to the smaller one I am currently using. I keep hoping to find a replacement lid somewhere so I can get rid of the smaller one instead. Meanwhile, it sits on a lower shelf in our crowded pantry taking up space. I'm also trying to figure out what to do with a mattress/box springs we have in storage. I am suddenly not comfortable selling it, but I hate the idea of throwing it away.

The wedding was survived, the newlyweds have been sent off, and I weep when I look at my room now (it was clean!  I vacuumed the floor! You could see the floor!), because I brought back boxes of books before the wedding, and then there was planning, and hair and makeup, and bridal showers, and a massage somewhere in all that, plus sleeping for two days straight, and now I need to start all over again.

I don't even know what my totals were before, so I'm starting over:

In: two books, one DVD  (3 total)

Out: one wooden jewelry box, seven pairs of earrings, three necklaces (11 total)

And now I will go bake bread.

(Also, acrylic nails are pretty, yes.  But what people fail to mention is that they are of the devil.  The devil, I tell you!)

I'm not keeping meticulous track and my counting is sort of arbitrary. Things I do not count: food, normal household trash and recycling. Organizational supplies are an acceptable in.

Goals for this weekend: get packages of stuff I have been meaning to mail for, literally, YEARS, ready to mail and confirm addresses of recipients. Finish going through papers. Get new (better) tackle box for beading tools and get rid of old one.

Goal for next week: have everything reasonably organized and stuff I'm taking with me for temporary move packed. Yikes! I am actually pretty close to the first goal, at least....
