Weekend uncluttering
Jan. 13th, 2019 09:12 pmWhat movement have you seen on the uncluttering front this weekend?
I've managed a large and some small wins. The big one was finding a home for the ping-pong table, and having it (and all the paraphernalia!) leave the premise. The small include rehoming craft items; going through some fabric and picking some to rehome; sorting through books and working out which ones might be duplicates, and putting them in an obvious and labelled place to find once I can get to the right shelf to check; moving a pile of archive and back-up CDs/DVDs to the storage box that we bought years ago, and getting putting the smaller ones aside to rehome. Oh, and taking a box to the op-shop! I'm not sure exactly how to count that one, because we came home with about as much as we donated (including a book I've been wanting to read, but hadn't got the motivation up to try and get hold of it. And I'll probably send it straight back when I'm done!)
In the not yet a win -- I've advertised some books, but they haven't had any nibbles (even though they are free).

Date: 2019-01-13 02:29 pm (UTC)Started trying to go through books and I've a decent pile to see if anyone I know might want them... I'm getting a bit more ruthless with things that fall under 'I haven't even touched this in fifteen years and the library exists' and also my gardening books, which are 99% research material anyway. (So nothing out yet, but getting closer to the door.)
Took a box for recycling that had a ton of newsletters from one of the places I make regular monetary donations to. I had about ten years worth and honestly, I barely flip through them when they arrive. So that's a huge chunk of my file cabinet back.

Date: 2019-01-13 04:12 pm (UTC)OH! AND I found a use for all those not-so-great crayons around the house! I made fire starters: http://re-thinkgreen.com/2016/05/12/diy-fire-starters-dryer-lint-crayons/ Now the crayon box is filled with good crayons (all Crayola, they just draw nicer) and all the freebie, cheapie, and give away crayons we've ended up with will start fires for us!

Date: 2019-01-13 05:32 pm (UTC)I binned an old hairbrush and have finished reading the first of this year's to-be-read non-fiction books. That and the last book from 2018 should go to the donation bin on Tuesday.
