Weekend uncluttering

What movement have you seen on the uncluttering front this weekend?

I've managed a large and some small wins. The big one was finding a home for the ping-pong table, and having it (and all the paraphernalia!) leave the premise. The small include rehoming craft items; going through some fabric and picking some to rehome; sorting through books and working out which ones might be duplicates, and putting them in an obvious and labelled place to find once I can get to the right shelf to check; moving a pile of archive and back-up CDs/DVDs to the storage box that we bought years ago, and getting putting the smaller ones aside to rehome. Oh, and taking a box to the op-shop! I'm not sure exactly how to count that one, because we came home with about as much as we donated (including a book I've been wanting to read, but hadn't got the motivation up to try and get hold of it. And I'll probably send it straight back when I'm done!)

In the not yet a win -- I've advertised some books, but they haven't had any nibbles (even though they are free).

Returned a shopping bag that's been sitting in the hall to a friend. It had a book inside that I thought he might be interested in, too.

Started trying to go through books and I've a decent pile to see if anyone I know might want them... I'm getting a bit more ruthless with things that fall under 'I haven't even touched this in fifteen years and the library exists' and also my gardening books, which are 99% research material anyway. (So nothing out yet, but getting closer to the door.)

Took a box for recycling that had a ton of newsletters from one of the places I make regular monetary donations to. I had about ten years worth and honestly, I barely flip through them when they arrive. So that's a huge chunk of my file cabinet back.

Sounds like you've made some great progress with things that were (more than) ready to go out of the house! Well done on progress so far, and good on you for getting more ruthless with the books.

Thank you~! For about a year, I was just grabbing every plant/gardening book on the quarter booksale shelf at the library and, uh, never actually looking at them. Now I'm ready to prune them down to the best of the bunch and send the rest back to be sold again.

I've cleaned off two landing zones, one of which has stayed cleaned. I cleaned up the storage area a bit and took a small donation to goodwill. Currently have a broken thing at the curb to go out with the trash tomorrow.

OH! AND I found a use for all those not-so-great crayons around the house! I made fire starters: http://re-thinkgreen.com/2016/05/12/diy-fire-starters-dryer-lint-crayons/ Now the crayon box is filled with good crayons (all Crayola, they just draw nicer) and all the freebie, cheapie, and give away crayons we've ended up with will start fires for us!

*waves pompoms and blows trumpets to celebrate keeping a landing zone cleared* That's a HUGE achievement! Well done on the other wins, too. :-)

And I've no need for fire starters myself, but that's a very neat recycling trick!

Oh my goodness, getting the ping-pong table (and paraphernalia!) out must have made a huge difference. :-) (I know the tables fold up, but they still take up a lot of space and probably get in the way of getting at other things?) Well done on the other wins, as well.

I binned an old hairbrush and have finished reading the first of this year's to-be-read non-fiction books. That and the last book from 2018 should go to the donation bin on Tuesday.

I identified about 10 books to give away, and a shirt to add to the bag of clothes for the thrift shop.

Putting back some items in the cupboard over the fridge, I realized it was time to let the pretty wine glasses go; neither I nor my apprentice ever use them. I've set them aside to a stash I'm collecting for this year's Goodwill donation run.

Well done for recognising you were never going to use the wine glasses, no matter how pretty, and deciding to pass them on to Goodwill. I'm sure someone else will get great joy out of using them.

Finally got the donate boxes into the car and to the thrift store. Also made a little progress on the laundry room - it's amazing how much diffence moving the dryer six inches over and four inches back could make.

Hooray for (re)claiming some space and for dropping off those donate boxes!

Woohoo for getting things out of the house -- often a hard step! And yay for finding extra space in the laundry room with a simple change.
