I started reducing my 4-drawer file to one for in the house, but I started with the top drawer which has my personal files, including one big letter file. This needed to be sorted, which took time, and I ended up reading the letters from my mother during my first 2 years at college - 1964-1965-1966 - when I was apparently distressed at adjusting to social and financial situations. I seem to have written complaints a lot, and my mother replied in some detail. All this reading of old letters slowed progress in file sorting, and I have not yet made it to the two important drawers of current records.

Since the local climate has finally made it to reasonably warm weather I could at last sort the clothes in the bedroom closet and exchange seasons. I also took the time to try to reduce what I kept. The closet is still stuffed with summer clothes, but there is a pile of mostly white shirts that looks to be about a foot high that will be donated somewhere soon. Some of those shirts have been around for several years, and 2 of them still have tags - I never wore them.

It can be nice to sometimes run into and revisit good memories and feelings -- and not just bad ones (like guilt or frustration) -- when we're decluttering, even if it slows us down. I hope you enjoyed reading the letters and revisiting the past. And well done on doing some decluttering as part of your seasonal clothes exchange.

I've adopted [personal profile] fred_mouse's suggestion of a bingo card, and decided to keep it for things that actually leave the house. So this week, I am able to cross off Book(s), DVD and Clothing, all of which went to the donation/recycling bins.

Sounds like it must have been fascinating reading!

Good job on decluttering while you did the seasonal change over. I sympathise on the buying of clothes that never get worn -- I'm sure I have some of those, because I only last so long when shopping that I grab the first wearable thing, and I don't always get that judgement right when tired.
