How has the uncluttering gone for you this weekend?
I've some positives, and some negatives. Yesterday, I filled up the car with most of the items to be passed on, and took them to an op-shop. Was able to get rid of most everything, except that they aren't taking books at the moment, so I have books sliding around in the back of the car. Today, I went through the small pile of clothes I'd pulled out of the wardrobe last weekend with the 'use it or lose it' idea. All but three have gone in the new op-shop box, and two of the items that I did wear are going to get washed and put in the box as well. The three things kept are all seasonally work suitable shirts, so if I haven't worn any of them by next weekend, out they should go. And I identified a number of things to get rid of off the shelves (freeing up space to move things from the floor), but the kids have so far vetoed over half of them, and started actually working on finishing one of the projects that they haven't touched in over a year, so I guess I have to find space for them again, and find something else to rehome.

Date: 2018-02-18 07:57 pm (UTC)I shipped 5 things and 4 padded envelopes to friends. I have only 2 envelopes left! Until tomorrow, anyway.
Donated 8 things--as in, left the house donated.
Put 2 things in the donation pile.
Gave some extra packing material to a friend who is moving.
AND AND AND.
I FINALLY convinced Spouse to get rid of FIVE textbooks we have been carting around for over a decade. For college courses neither of us took. The only time either of us has touched them is to move them from house to house. I've been working on getting rid of the books since we got married. I've accepted keeping the last two books for courses taken.

Date: 2018-02-19 04:55 pm (UTC)And hey, if the kids are working on one of the projects you were trying to get rid of, that's a good thing, right? (I did see a nice tip for craft/project stuff, which is to put a date on it; if you haven't used it/finished it by then, it should go. Not sure if that will work with the kids, but it might encourage them to tackle more unfinished things?)
I finished my shredding (and then found a little more to work on this week). I also went through a pile of random unused paper (mostly lined) and threw out some that was really tatty, put some into the scrap-for-notes pile, and repurposed a large chunk into being the basis for a future home-made diary. So it's no longer clutter! (I've been creating diaries in blank notebooks for the past three (?) years and I'm running out of suitable notebooks, so this postpones having to figure out what to do next for at least another year.)

Date: 2018-02-21 12:15 pm (UTC)As for me, the books will leave in a week or two, and at least there is now only a small area of the hall filled with items that should go.
And the working on the project -- yes, it is nice. But I left one of the projects, because every time I got it out one of them wanted to have a go, and was taking over responsibility, and then it has languished for most of a year. So I'm just disgruntled. I'll get over it and appreciate it soon enough (unless I tread on another small pointing object, while the rest of the project is all over the floor and gathering dust).
