adair: christmas tree in snowy village (Christmastree)
[personal profile] adair posting in [community profile] unclutter
Late posting, seems to be a feature of the season. Again I did little real clutter clearing this week, but I did deal with the wrapping paper mess in the back closet.

There was a big plastic box of fabric (I need to deal with that some time) with 2 small plastic boxes with ribbons and bows and three plastic bags with a lot of gift bags and some partly used packages of wrapping paper for Christmas and other uses. All this kept falling around, and made it difficult to get the boxes out so we could clean behind them, so we did not. However, this is also the space with the crawl space entrance, and the termite guy wanted to come make his annual inspection. B. pulled out all the stuff and found that our local mouse was using the back wall to store food. This had to be cleaned up, and we decided we had to make it easy to get the boxes out so we could clean there once a month. We went to Target where we both bought several clear plastic boxes of various sizes, including one flattish one for gift bags, tissue paper and wrapping paper.

I sorted all the stuff I had and put some of it in the box; anything that did not fit got pitched - it's going to recycling. I was clearly saving some paper because I liked the print, but had not used it. I seem to remember one piece being from some time in the 70s. It had trees in an olive green and turquoise - a very 70s color scheme.

So now I have one moveable box of wrapping paper and bags, and a resolve to buy no more. Gift giving and wrapping is less frequent than it used to be. When I have to prepare wraps this Christmas I will sort out and toss most of the bows, possibly getting rid of one of the small boxes.

That may not be a big project, but it sounds like a really helpful one. And getting rid of any clutter is good! Plus now it will be easy to find what you need when you do have to wrap presents, plus you know not to add to the clutter by buying more wrapping stuff.

I bought new PJs, so the old ones have gone into the area where I'm accumulating recycling. They'll eventually go into the textile recycling bin. I also added some other bits and bobs I came across, and finished reading another dead-tree book from my to-read pile, which is sitting ready to go to the book bin. Oh, and watched half of a TV show box set. That won't be leaving the house when I'm done, but will stop sitting around in a clutter-y to-be-watched pile and go on the shelf.

I managed to get a few more things on their way, or nearly on their way. I added a headband I've not worn in 4 years and a watch that may need some fixing to the donation box. I also recycled the packaging to my current watch--I held on to it in case this watch breaks because I had a terrible time with watches dying on me. But it's been nearly 18 months, so it's probably okay to throw that stuff away.
