Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how's the decluttering go?

In my case, the answer is paperwork, plus some more paperwork. The filing cabinet is getting overfull, so I went through one file (manuals and warranties) and binned anything not still relevant, plus flagging two more overflowing folders to go through. I also finished up some more bits and bobs in the kitchen, and in one case then *threw out the pretty pretty container*, because I don't want it and I bet the op-shop can't sell it.

Plus I went through most of another pile of paper, and threw out about 75% of it. A few pieces have gone into the urgent pile, some into the whenever pile, and some into the filing cabinet. I found medical paperwork which means that I don't have to make a long avoided phone call ('when is my GP follow up due'), but does mean I have to make a GP appointment for follow-up. *sigh*.

That, plus a short period of time ironing, has got the not-quite-a-sideboard in the main room almost clear. There is a pile of software and other CDs/DVDs at one end that I need to sort through to work out what is still valid. I'm hoping that at least half will turn out to be software that can't be run any more, and exam music, and so can be binned with extreme prejudice, but I don't expect to get to that for at least another month.

I made the trip to the charity shop yesterday and gave in 2 boxes and 2 bags. One bag was clothes, the rest was mostly DVDs and books although there were a few other miscellaneous items in there. Unfortunately, I also brought a slightly smaller bag home with a mix of books and DVDs in it *sigh*

Today, I sent a pair of boots for someone else to try and see if they were any good to them as although I liked them, they don't fit my needs. They make my feet too hot when it's not really cold, not quite smart enough for work, and of a material that would ruin if I wore them in the wet or snow.

I've also put into the bin the mat from inside the front door as I was given a replacement.

I've also started a new bag of DVDs and books to go. This has a few DVDs that I'd put to leave the house before I took the ones yesterday, but they may be of use to either family or a friend so I'll give them first option before taking them to the donation.

I had a friend help me carry the exercise bike downstairs this morning and it is now in the hallway, awaiting collection to be disposed of along with a printer that also has to go as it's broken beyond repair.

I'm going to do some ironing now, but after that I'm hoping to get a bit more cleaning/decluttering done before the end of the day. I'm trying to decide what to do with a pair of shoes - I bought them earlier this year and they look really nice, but the sole is a strange shape and makes them very uncomfortable to wear for any length of time. As they are open sandals there's no way to add an inner sole to try and cancel the shape out and make them more comfortable. It makes me think I should go through the cupboard and see if I could get rid of any more of the shoes I struggle to wear or whether I stand any chance of breaking them in enough to wear for longer periods of time.

I recycled a handful of papers and some plastic bags. I have another box of handmedowns to send to a friend but she won't be ready for a while. I may send it in a week or two. Picked out 2 items to go to the secondhand store with fiddly hours, but the items are out of my closet. I threw out expired salad dressing, stale cookies (I KNOW!), and awful tasting flavored water.

need to figure out what to do with my snowpants that were clearly bought for a smaller person. Sell? Give away? Secondhand store so I don't have to deal with it? There's no rush, it's still early fall weather here.

Sneaky mama trick: I bought the halloween giveaways today. I also added some of my kids' candy stash, to even out what they'll bring in, and a bunch of small toys they've never played with. Kid meal toys at fast food places, mostly. I have no doubt all of the giveaways will leave the house on halloween. We tend to leave the box on the porch with a sign to take one, please don't ring the bell the baby is sleeping. Things have disappeared by 8pm every year!
