garage decluttering is going apace - I've been putting more effort into doing, and almost no effort into recording, which is probably the right way around! in the last week, I've managed to clear out a couple of shopping bags worth of soft toys/infant toys (taken to the op-shop yesterday), thrown a small stack of papers in the recycling, and put away a couple of wash baskets worth of miscellaneous items that should never have gone in there (including several pieces of fabric that I would have liked to have sewn up last winter!)

Around the rest of the house, I've been targeting collections of many small things. These include, but are not limited to, installation CDs (about 1/3 no longer applicable - recycled - on the order of 20 CDs), the stash of single/unloved socks (about 2/3 binned, especially anything of a size that has been outgrown - probably 30 socks?), and the pile of suspected-to-be-duplicate books (four confirmed, new homes located, but still in the house until I catch up with the appropriate friends).

All in all, steady progress. House still has a consistent layer of Stuff on most every horizontal surface, but I'm at least keeping kitchen counters clean more days than not!

You're doing great! And you've inspired me to find a few extra items to donate at the thrift shop today.

Huzzah!

I bought 2 t-shirts, some chocolate and some booze when I was away, but there seems to be an inordinate amount of crap that has come out of my suitcase.

Where does it all come from?? I had/have exactly the same problem after a quick trip to France - three and a half days away and although I took all the washing out, I still haven't managed to pack everything else away. All that and I didn't even put the 'purchases' that I made in the suitcase (although they have just about all been put away properly - there's still a protractor on the stairs that needs to go to relevant place - most were food so went straight to fridge or kitchen cupboard).

That sounds like brilliant progress! Don't allow what's left to demoralise you by allowing your focus to stay on things that haven't been tackled yet, focus on the 'I must be doing well because I had to go to the Op shop' or 'the recycling was fuller than usual' type of thing to remind yourself how much is heading the right way.
