I've done it! I have a new home, after over a year's search. My landlord's pregnant wife is finally moving here and I've got to vacate the 'nursery' I've been living in for 2 years.

The cool thing is that its an apartment that's really a small house, with kitchen, laundry and dining room on the lower level, and bed, bath and living/office upstairs. Plus a little deck. Nice shade, nice neighbors and even a bit of a water view.

I want this place to be another step toward living sanely, and since the rooms are small, only what belongs there is going into the place. My current landlord will be patient with me getting all my storage out of here.

So, I'm declaring my intentions, asking for your cheerleading, and looking for ways to manage the countdown to moving day, about 5 weeks away.

Woooo!

Congratulations on your new home! It looks very cute. How nice to have so many trees nearby and also a water view.

I think when getting ready to move it's great to try to de-clutter as you pack, and to start doing that as soon as possible. But as moving day gets closer and your brain is preoccupied with all of the other decisions you need to make, that may become more difficult. It's also ok if you just end up throwing things in boxes at the end!

Woohoo, what a lovely little house. I am out of brain and can't immediately think of any useful suggestions, but happy to cheer you on!

What a beautiful new place you're moving into!

Good luck with the moving. I'll second [personal profile] semielliptical's suggestion of trying to declutter as/before you pack. Also, if you're not already aware of it, you might want to look at the UFYH blog's post on moving.

house!

Good luck with the moving. I must admit to being the *other* kind of house moving declutterer, in that I much prefer throwing (almost) everything in the boxes, and then as I unpack them, put the stuff I want on the shelves, and rehome the rest.

Good Luck! Hope all goes well - By way of advice I'm going to say - there's nothing wrong with a bit of decluttering at both ends as if you know something isn't wanted/needed don't bother going to the effort of moving it, but if when you get there it doesn't feel right in your new home, it's fine to get rid of it then too.

Most importantly though, go with whatever keeps the stress levels lowest - moving house is right up there on the 'stressful things to do' list, so keep yourself sane and healthy and I hope your new home is as lovely as it looks.
