I would totally count individual items. Clothes, sometimes even paper, because if I have to sort through it and make decisions, it all counts.

(And no, I wouldn't count food or such things. I might count shower gels, personally, because I have a terrible addiction to ALL the flavours, omg, of the Kings and Queens line)
