February Declutter Challenge

I really need to do this, so why not make it an event where people can join in?

February here is all about carneval, Valentine's Day and unending winter weather. So, let's look at a couple of new areas (pick and choose):

• STUFF TO MAKE YOURSELF LOOK DIFFERENT: old make-up, hair accessories, brushes, combs, hairclips, dried out nail polish etc.


• BATH PRODUCTS: out of date creams, lotions, oils, bathing salts, old tooth brushes etc.


• CLOTH: that towel with the holes (repair or put it to some other use), washcloths, reusable make-up pads, cleaning cloths (the ones that almost fall apart),...


• PERFUMES: that gift someone got you, but really you never wear it, or maybe it's so old the scent changed

Let's free up some space in the space where we get clean! Or alternatively, let's clean those brushes and combs, replace that mangy toothbrush with a new one and throw away make-up we never use anyway.

Optional: if you have plants in your bathroom (I do), let's give them some love.

I'm open to more suggestions! Let me know what immediately came to your mind when you read the challenge.

I know this is a decluttering community but if you have a bottle of nail polish that's gotten gunked up but you want to keep for whatever reason, you can use nail polish thinner!

This is a good one! It is going to take a little extra nudging to pare down my makeup any farther even though 1) most of it is from my previous job where makeup was expected and I left that more than a decade ago and 2) I never wear it! I keep telling myself I might need it for a funeral (I never think of weddings or anything, just funerals, even though I'd like to think any potential funeral will be planned far enough in advance I can hit the dollar store and also who would recognize me in makeup at this point anyway?) ((Brains are so fucking weird sometimes.))(((Also some of it is ancient expensive Avon shit because of course we had someone selling that and ugh, shit is living rent-free but I can't bring myself to pitch it.)))

But I did find like ten little hotel shampoos that I didn't know I had, a bunch more floss, and lotion! And pitched some dead lotion and the body spray of the damned that I was keeping in case I ever needed to smell like a corpse-flower, I guess. I binned a lot! But there is plenty left to bin at some point.

I need to get the bathroom cleaned up in general because after reading a thread on reddit from first-responders, if anything happens to me I'd at least like some poor EMT to at least think 'that's a nice clean shower'.

I went through a box on my dresser and put a bunch of stuff away, also threw some out.

I think I'm on top of this because I've already done a few things lol. A friend is visiting soon so I decided to clean up last weekend. It included me going through old bottles, make up, and throwing out old products that were expired or no longer of use.

I have few perfumes since I'm scent sensitive but the ones I have, I think I'll use. I often forget I don't need a special occasion to use them. Every day is a special occasion so I should use them to my hearts content (reasonably! I don't want to activate my senses too much)
