I've rather dropped the ball on check in posts. I'd like to claim that I'm going to be doing weekly posts (and I'm going to put it back in my reminders, so maybe!).

With that said: what have you achieved in the declutter sphere? Have you done a tiny thing? Something marvellous and magical that has transformed your life? Made a plan but haven't yet carried it out? Tell us, tell us!

Comments open to locals, lurkers, drive by sticky beaks, and anyone I've forgotten to mention.

A few weeks back, we lent one of our cars to a friend, and before doing so we cleared out many years of detritus (we have had this car a little over 20 years, and it was the main family car. It had all sorts of emergency supplies). Because we were in the middle of dealing with something else, it all got dumped in the library -- a washing basket, a bag, the storage box that lived in the car, another box or two. And left. Yesterday, I pulled the towels out of the pile, and put them through the wash. I'm about to get up and go put the blankets and jumpers through the wash, and see what else might go in a wash load. Once they aren't dusty any more, we'll have to work out which ones to keep, and where to keep them (the replacement car doesn't yet have a full set of everything).

load is on. there were so many more blankets and jumpers than I had remembered. And a really good cold weather jacket I'd forgotten about (it lived in the car because one of my kids is a competitive ice-skater, and we were at the rink year round; I haven't needed it since they got their driver's license) which needs to be hung somewhere.

Apart from the stop-and-start instances of 'Where did X go? Oh, it's there now,' it's much more convenient and clears up the main counterspace considerably.

Now that I have a tentative moving date (late October) the decluttering and cleaning has really amped up. Deadlines are quite good motivators! So far in September alone I have decluttered 209 items, all of them quite small, but every little bit helps. I have new piles started for library donations and some things that are listed for sale but aren't gone out of the house yet, so hopefully there will be some movement there soon.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned our sewer backed up months ago and we’ve had insurance people out here to take pictures of the basement, but I was told not to touch anything piled onto tables and other furniture until the people inspect it to see what hasn’t been damaged.

Sadly, we haven’t made progress on cleaning the garage due to other factors and I’ve been too busy taking care of Mom to really clean my bedroom, but I did clean my bathroom.

Oh, how awful about the sewer backup. I hope insurance moves a little faster, that has to be uncomfortable with the basement mess.

I got a new shower caddy because between me and the roommate, we had completely overtaken the last one and we had bottles sitting on the floor, which weirdly stressed me out. Feel much better now!

Did a big pantry re-organizing and purge, then did the same with the freezer. It felt so good to see things look so nice.

Tonight I bought a caddy for individual drink powders (think liquid IV), but it doesn't look as neat as I'd like it -- mostly because I really had to cram some in there and the powder shifts to the bottom which means there's less space for the packets. I think it'll look nicer once we start using them up, so just another excuse to hydrate!

I have cleared enough shed that we can see the floor and get more shelving units in there to help organise the stuff remaining! There have been two trips to the recycling centre with a very full car.
