I found this article this morning, full of advice about decluttering.

One bit that makes people hold on to things is "What if someone can use that?"

Well, then set it free, let that person find it. Offer it to friends, take it to a secondhand store.

Keeping a thing someone else may need and cluttering your living space is not worth it!

How has your uncluttering year started?

I went back to work yesterday, after a week off, so did a last push to try and get the sewing/music room and the games/library room sorted -- including moving books from shelves in other rooms (oops). I now have an even longer list of sewing repairs, six fewer things in the sewing basket (all in the 'to a good home' pile), and more books on the floor than I wanted to (but all the DVDs are sorted -- and we found a couple more to rehome). We also found a doll's bed (and doll) that hadn't been taken off the shelf in years, a small bookshelf that was emptied on to one of the newly empty shelves, and a side table that has been moved around the house multiple times since Youngest decided they didn't want it any more. Oh, and in one of the baskets I found a stash of 'wanna make' patterns, some of which are no longer of interest, so they have gone as well, so my potential projects list has been stripped done a bit as well!

The shelf has been repurposed in the front hall to hold items that we think friends might want, with an agreement that if we can't fit anything on it, then we have to fill a box to take to the op-shop. But everything else is slated to leave the house, which I am very thankful for.
