I have bagged a lot of leaves - still plenty, but it's a start. I mailed 18 fundraiser letters for Books to Prisoners to local unions, adding special notes hoping to catch their interest. Mine sent money last year; I am hoping for more to pick up on this. We had a great letter from one of our user who was a highschool dropout - he says practically illiterate, when he first wrote to us and now has a high-score GED, an Associate degree, and plans for a BA and MS in Social Work, with specialization in drug addiction when he is released in 2020. He gives the books we sent him , for about 12 years, a lot of credit for directing his efforts. I hope all the unions read that letter and think about what books can do.
I also have 6 boxes of books stacked in my living room to be taken to someone's double garage for our Prison Library program 3Rs. They did not all, or most, come from my collection but they've been sitting around for a while as I gathered them from book sales and other places. They are now listed, sorted, and ready to leave on Sunday.
