Yesterday was a great day for discarding! I'm helping an older relative unclutter, and yesterday we began on the boxes of medical supplies, some of which have sat unused since her father-in-law retired and passed them on to her in the early eighties. We discarded dozens of pessaries from the mid-60s, among other things, and set aside a box of items for possible donation (medical charities probably won't take most of it, but artists might; it's all got a strong vintage asylum vibe). I took some of the no-longer-sterile paper products home to clean the toilet with.
It made me a little sad that these things hadn't been given away 25 years ago when she retired, when they might still have done some good elsewhere. But I am happier about clearing the space out than I am sad about the waste.
