fred_mouse: drawing of mouse settling in for the night in a tin, with a bandana for a blanket (cleaning)

How is your weekend going? Has there been a spare five minutes to do something about the clutter?

I've done 'walk around an identify rubbish' which was slightly more successful than I had expected, which means I've been not as diligent about throwing things out when I've finished them as I had hoped. And we did a two minute blitz on the fridge at some point, just getting rid of the leftovers that had been there past the allowable days, and feeding them to the chooks.

Lots of things! I have a thing at the curb right now. I sold a thing and added another thing for sale, then put all the things I've got for sale in my closet so I don't have to look at them. Visual clutter wasn't helping me! I recycled some boxes I'd intended for shipping, but I'd had one for nearly a year. Clearly I'm not going to use it. I also melted some sub-par crayons and crayon bits into fire starters and gave more crayons to a local school.

Wow -- so many different small wins! Great job! And I hear you on the visual clutter -- glad you were able to improve that a bit. (Also less risk of anything happening to the things for sale if they're in the closet, probably.)

I rounded up another 4 books to go and a DVD. I've also been collecting the recycling and making sure it has been cleaned (where necessary) and added to the collection boxes ready to go out tomorrow night. Not a massive amount but on a positive note - I had cleared enough shelf space over the last few weeks with books that have left to retrieve a box from the cupboard and put its contents on the shelf and there was still some space left. Although there are other boxes that I could take books from I figure it can hold off until I have enough space to put at least half of a box.

I'm still trying to get an answer from the local schools that I've approached with regard to the two boxes of books that I had packed - there is now half of a third box - if they hold out a bit longer, it'll be full too!

Hooray for small but steady progress and enough space to unpack a box of books! Hope you hear back from the local schools soon.

Good work on dealing with the rubbish now (even if you feel you should have dealt with it before) and clearing out the leftovers -- both small but important wins!

Here, a small box of shredded paper and half a bag of garden rubbish have gone! I also filled up the other half of a black trash bag that will go out at the end of the week, and shredded a bit more paperwork.

Various things in the house, garden and garage have been dealt with in various ways and stored more neatly. Some are staying, but most are just in transition -- and are at least ready to go in the trash or to the tip when I get the chance.

It's none of it particularly fast progress, but it is progress. And a lot of it is reducing visual clutter, which makes me feel better!

I've just emptied some bits out of a box that has been sitting in the back bedroom for enough years that I've given up counting. The box is ready to go in the recycling. And I've managed to get as far as the wardrobe behind the box to see what's in it. There's a load of bedding in there, some of which can go to the charity shop.

I'm wondering about freecycling the wardrobe. It came from Ma's when she retired and was never really meant to stay here. I'd rather have the space.

Congratulations on dealing with a Very Old Box!

It sounds like you want the space where the wardrobe is to leave empty or use more as you wish. Is there any particular reason, apart from it coming from Ma's, that you want to keep it?

No reason for keeping it, other than finding someone who might take it away for me. I'll need to move things around to get it out. There's another wardrobe in the front room that can go as well. It's just a logistical thing. I may manage to get into the local charity shop, but they will only collect on specific days, so I'd have to take a day off work.
