Mid-week uncluttering

What have you found to free yourself from today?

The theme of the day for me was 'taking things where they belong' -- I took three completed blankets to the Cat Haven, and returned a marked teaspoon to the place I used to work (it turned up in a clean up a few months back).

Other than that, I've been buying books, because it was the last day of the local Save the Children Fund booksale, and I got two boxes at $15 each -- several things I wouldn't have bought even at a few dollars each that I'm happy enough to explore and donate straight back (plus several things I missed the first time around that fill specific gaps in my collections)

Today's plans include chucking a lot of stuff in the dumpster. Starting with the bookcase that Dad informs me (and looking at it with no books on it, he's right) is trash. Which, well, it's a DIY-assembly shelf set from Walmart, and I'm pretty sure it's the older of the two of that sort I had, which means I got a lot more use out of it than its design specs probably expected...

Ooers. I know those bookshelves. (I uh. might have run a few of them to actual collapse.) Good time to replace it.

Eh, not replacing, just killing it ded. My books are predominantly in a storage unit now; I will acquire new bookcases between acquiring a new apartment and paying someone to haul my crap cross-country.

A work thing means I have a perfect excuse to tidy my desk. I have an astonishing number of pens and things to write on in drawers, none of them of good quality.

Yesterday I got rid of a bunch of desk junk and took more home to be categorized. It'll be nice to rebuild my personal items at my desk with only the ones I actually want and use.

Ooh, external motivation! I hope the dodgy pens have gone to a different home, and you find some good ones to be going on with. Also that your rebuilt set up is spectacular!

I've had more time for decluttering lately, so I have plenty to report!

Just sent off a box of handmedowns and another handmedown box has started--that box was packed full but I had more. Sent off 2 other packages to friends this week too. I have only 3 padded envelopes right now!

I sold one thing, and have 2 more things total listed for sale. One giveaway posted, hoping that will be claimed soon.

Box of cords recycled, and 2 more things to the donation bin.

Spouse agreed that we need to clean up the storage area a bit, so whenever we have time, we'll have more to send along.

My city's citywide garage sale dates were finally announced, so I'm doing a little bit every day to get ready for it. I'm going to make some price signs to put on the book, VHS tape, and CD boxes because I don't have the time to put price stickers on every individual item. I sorted the baby clothes yesterday, but I think I will pin the outfits that have more than one piece together. I'm also hoping I see my neighbors today so I can ask them if their baby grandson could use a few clothes and toys. And I want to get the two breastfeeding books off my shelves since my daughter weened last month.

A city wide garage sale sounds like a fabulous event. Good luck with getting rid of some/all of the items.

Thanks. I wish I had been feeling better and had heard about this when it was first announced, so I could be more prepared. Last year's sale was almost a complete bust, so I wanted to be better organized this year.
