fred_mouse: drawing of mouse settling in for the night in a tin, with a bandana for a blanket (cleaning)

How goes the uncluttering this weekend? Has there been time to even think about it?

I've done surprisingly well. I went through the medicine cabinet (a small, wall mounted one), identified some out of code medicines, and put them aside to take to the pharmacy. And now all the current medications are in the cabinet, instead of some of them being on top! I'm trying to decide whether to put the rubber ducks that used to live there (years ago) back, or to leave it empty. And then yesterday morning, while looking for something in one of the desk drawers, I realised that any number of things had been shoved in there and weren't needed. What I thought was going to be a quick job -- 'just grab all the coloured paper'-- turned out to be over an hour in total, interrupted by various errands, and spread to the next drawer. But I now have two 1/2 - 3/4 full rather than over flowing drawers, all the sticky labels are in the one drawer, all the sticky tape has been found (and several things I thought we'd run out of and thus replaced were found), several things are put aside for a teacher friend, and some other bits are in the bin! I'm most pleased that I went back and finished the job, leaving nothing on the counter.

I attempted to do a lot today, but many of my suggested rehomes were vetoed by teens. I can't bring myself to get rid of a couple of things we aren't using (guitar, cello), because I have hopes that we will get back to using them some time. And then youngest pulled a handful of craft things out of their room, and only the one has gone on the rehome pile, because I made grabby hands at all the beading materials (I have Plans!), which have then been added to my beading pile. I found a small pile of random plastic bits that were probably once pieces of toys, and binned the lot. The same box held a fabulous pull along frog toy, which just needs repair, so I'm thinking about who has a kid the right age for that!

Yesterday I went looking for a specific piece of paperwork and ended up clearing out my paperwork drawer. Apparently for most of last year I was just shoving paperwork I needed to keep in the drawer. Normally I ditch all the envelopes and extranious info leaflets (yes bank, I really need the same leaflet about you changing the interest rate on overdrafts with every bank statement for six months...) before putting the in the drawer, but apparently not since last spring. So I pulled those out, pulled the windows out of the envelopes and recyled the lot. The paper now occupies half the drawer space it did previously. It still needs organised, but I can now actually fit everything that needs to go in that drawer, into that drawer.

Also, I really need to acquire myself a shredder.

I shelved a lot of books yesterday and the empty boxes are departing for Dad's today. Or else the recycles. Depending on condition.

I gave away one of the last baby things and a bag of file folders to a friend, and mended a towel that's been laying around my bedroom for a while. I had to cut off about 3" inches (~7cm) of the towel and hem it--I threw out the resulting scrap right away as it was too small and too odd a shape to be useful in other ways. Then I threw out a broken toy I had hopes to fix, but that particular child hasn't noticed the toy since gifting in December, so out it goes. Child has plenty of toys.
