fred_mouse: drawing of mouse settling in for the night in a tin, with a bandana for a blanket (cleaning)
[personal profile] fred_mouse posting in [community profile] unclutter
How goes the uncluttering this weekend?

I have rearranged more books, finding at least four to rehome in the process. I've also cleared an area of floor that I had despaired of ever getting clear! I had hopes of more, but today was not that day.

And in the virtual decluttering -- I've been reading everyone's posts and comments, congratulations on all you are achieving! I just haven't had it in me to reply, and I'm giving myself permission to move everything out of my inbox and into my archive. :} I'm so proud of the group we have here, and the steady progress everyone is making.

Woohoo for clearing that area of floor!

I've dealt with some garden-related stuff in the garage: mostly emptying compost out of large pots and stacking the pots, so I now have some floor space back. ;-)

I also threw out two pairs of disreputable shoes, which is a big deal for me, as I've been really bad in the past at letting shoes go.

Well done on the garden stuff clearing and the space creation. Also well done on getting rid of the shoes. Yay! for progress.

Well done on rearranging, rehoming and reclaiming space. That's great progress.

Having been ill I've not been up to doing much, but what I have done is make some more progress through the DVD and book pile (in between many naps!). I've finished two books and put them for rehoming and ten DVDs (one or two of these were so bad I didn't even finish them!).

Oh I know something else I did - the sock drawer wouldn't close, so I took it out and worked my way down through it, throwing out the ones that either had holes in the heels or toes or were wearing thin, similarly with tights and stockings. The drawer now closes again. Intend doing the same with a couple of other drawers when I'm up to it.

Sorry to hear you've been sick, but it sounds like you made the best of your physical inaction with those books and DVDs - some great progress. And good work on the sock drawer!

The trick was 'nap-watch DVD-nap-rewind a bit and continue to watch DVD - nap - get up and move about a little in search of food or drink - watch DVD - nap... and so on'

Okay, this SOUNDS like a lot, but honestly, the difference isn't terribly noticeable. I went through my desk bin and didn't find much to part with.

I shipped a box of handmedowns to a friend.
Gave away/friends picked up 3 things from fb offers.
I took a pile of 4 things to the consignment store.
I recycled tons of school paperwork.
Took a bag of shirts to the secondhand store.
Handled the mending pile.
Cleaned out my email of unneeded receipts (Yes, I KNOW I went to this coffee shop every week, no need to keep those receipts!)
Added a thing to the donation pile (This weekend's total of things added: one.)
Recycled what I could from my desk bin.

Currently:
Waiting for Spouse to go through school paper work (it's only fair, I went through mine!) and recycle it.
I've got a thing listed to give away on fb and I expect no one to take it.
Spouse listed 2 things to sell on fb, I've shared the ad on my fb.
And I have 2 things newly added to the mending pile. That I just finished. UGH.
Deciding what to do with a crib/toddler bed and a changing pad to get them out of the house. Will probably give away the crib to a charity and throw the changing pad in the trash, we are at least the 3rd family to use the pad. It's well used.

I saw a few more bins in storage I could go through and condense. That will be visible progress, albeit in a part of the house we don't visit daily.

I did just throw away the changing pad, added a thing to the donation pile, and packed up a new fb offer to mail. I expected to get nothing done this week so I'm happy with this.

I agree with [personal profile] fred_mouse that you have done a lot!

I hope the extra bins help you make some visible progress and feel as accomplished as you've definitely been.

I set aside two skeins of yarn to sell, trade, or donate because I can't see my stitches when I crochet or knit with it, so it's impossible to work with. It's also not a yarn that can be dried in the dryer, so I can't use it for cat beds or baby blankets.

I still have several VHS tapes, even though I can't figure out how to watch tapes with my VCR because of our current AV setup. So since one of the movies was on during a premium channel free preview, I DVRed it and watched it Saturday. I didn't like it enough to keep the tape, so it went into the box of VHS tapes I plan to take this weekend to a second-hand shop to either trade in or sell to them. (I also have comics and CDs to take to that store, so I'm hoping to get rid of a whole pile of stuff).

Ooh, and I've been weeding out my books and mailed 5 for book swaps yesterday.
