Mid-week uncluttering

How has everyone's uncluttering been going this week?

As previously advertised, I took the box (and some other bits and pieces) out of the front hall, and donated it. Not quite as virtuous as I might have been, because I took it to the op-shop that has the really good second-hand book section (bigger than the whole area of some op-shops) and came home with 11 new books (at least two are ones I already have, which are for a friend who I know was looking for this hard-to-find, probably out of print author).

As to yesterday and today, I can't actually point at anything. I've been doing *something* because the house is much tidier than it was (oh, and I cleared some of the things out of the fridge), but nothing that feels like having picked things to rehome. I do keep looking at a shelf in the lounge, but there is too much on it that I'd have to find homes for at present. But, oh, it would be nice to have that bit of wall back.

I love these regular posts. I almost never comment, but they're a wonderful reminder and an inspiration. It's one of the reasons I have a regular "donation box" that continually gets emptied and refilled and emptied again. Thanks for keeping this community going.

...fridges, and eternal source of clutter. If only my young adults were liked the ones I went to uni with, who could clear a fridge of leftovers in under half an hour.

This week has been more with the reorganising and moving things around, rather than getting rid of things, but I DID find a bunch of old photocopies that could go, so that was nice. :3 My Mama found a bunch of boxes I need to go through today, though, so hopefully I'll get rid of a bunch of stuff either tomorrow or Friday, depending.

Still have a lot to go through, but I actually have visible floor large enough to laze about on, which is pretty great! :D

I'm shipping returns back today, all the charity donations we've been housing for weeks are finally gone, throwing out a pair of worn out kid shoes, giving a pair of kid shoes away, and I think I have identified another shirt or two to send along. Small progress.

I'm finally done going through my LPs and took a random ten down to the local record store to trade in. I brought two new ones back with me, and still have some store credit, but they're albums I'll actually listen to. ^_^; (And when I take more down, I've already offered my boyfriend some of the credit if he finds anything he wants. Now to go through the singles...)

Well done! I'm pretending I don't have a record collection that needs pruning, but when I sort out the furniture in the lounge, I'm going to have to do *something with them*. What new/interesting music did you come home with?

Mine was a combination of my records, a box of my grandmother's records that got left here at some point, and some random ones that literally came from ??? so it badly needed pruning. (I actually kept quite a few of the orchestral ones from my grandmother's collection, along with a selection of Big Band stuff.)

I brought home one from The GoGos and one Johnny Cash. Next time I go, I need to look through their cassette tapes, which I forgot to do. My runabout car is old and still has a working cassette deck, so why not?

Interesting pair of albums! I'm intrigued that there is still somewhere selling cassette tapes, because I don't think I've noticed anywhere doing that in recent years. Mind you, I only know where a few record shops are (and I have no idea how much of their stock is second hand).

Interesting article, thank you! I was talking about this yesterday, and discovered that some of the cassette tape market is people in prison, who are allowed tapes but not CDs, which was not something I had ever heard of before (I'm not sure of which jurisdictions, but I think at least the US?).

These days, I think most of the LPs that I would hold on to are musicals and symphonic music, where that particular cast/orchestral recording wasn't released on CD. But I haven't been able to bring myself to start going through them yet. I'm not sure if I would buy more, although if I could find LPs or CDs that would replace the cassette tapes I wore out, I'd probably jump at the chance. Particularly the Mike Oldfield albums!

I have so many mixtapes that friends made me over the years that'll have to be pried out of my cold, dead hands. Before sites like youtube and whatnot, I'd trade tapes around the world just to hear what was popular in other countries. (And some of those songs I can never replace. At one point I was trying to get them all onto CD but I never got too far...)

At least, even with a decent stash of them, cassettes don't take up too much space.

Oooh, mixtapes. Sadly, I left most of mine behind when I left home, because ostensibly they were my mother's (ditto most of my sheet music). I did get given a couple of mix cds, but it wasn't quite the same (although one of them has 'The Ballad of Tom Jones' on it, which I had never heard, and promptly played obsessively enough that I nearly knew the words by the end of it)
