There is a new(ish) rule in place that any new sewing projects need to use natural materials - a semi-synthetic like rayon is okay, but there is no plastic allowed. There's another rule that new purchases must be for a specific project, when that project is ready to start.

Those two rules have cut down on fabric purchases and delivered boons in the form of stash purges.

I went through the fabrics bin earlier in search of a material that I thought could be used for trousers. I found it, but it looked and felt semi-synthetic. A flame test confirmed that it's some kind of plant fiber and plastic blend. It was disappointing, but not something that I would have used anyway.

Since it's been in there for years, I put it (and a bag's worth of other old fabrics) out for donation. The bin is finally half-empty.

Hooray for cleaning out part of the fabric bin! We’re having an inspection later this month after flooding to determine how our fabric and other items fared.

Our big project has been cleaning out the garage. We’ve been delayed mostly amongst heat advisories, storms, and smoke, but we have cleared a good portion of the passenger’s side of the garage and we’ve donated some windshield brushes/ice scrapers. We’ll probably have to travel to the hazardous waste disposal site in case Mom wants to get rid of insecticides, herbicides, or other such bottles.

I went through the yarn and fabric stashes at my mom's house [I live in a tiny overseas apartment, so a lot of my things are still in her basement] and it's oddly freeing to let go of whatever I planned to do with those materials however many years ago I bought them, you know? Hopefully someone picks up your donation who can put the fabric to good use!
