adair: be careful near machinery (machinery)
[personal profile] adair
Our musical visitor left on Wednesday, and the living room had space to open the sleeper sofa, and for 3 people to sit, and for Mike to charge his electronics, as to well and play and record in B's tiny studio.
To achieve this, among other things, I put six banker's boxes of my books in the garage. This by no means meant all books were on shelves, but the coffee table was clear, the seating part of the futon was clear, the floor was clear - I am enjoying it enough that I have not brought any books back in yet.

I plan to bring in a box at a time, and get back to some serious decisions about what books to keep. I will always have far too many for my space, but I would like to be able to function more easily than the vast quantities of books allow. I am once again trying to think about why I need to retain so much written material. It's been a life-long need, but I have also been aware that while I do a lot of re-reading I do not re-read more than a third or so of what I keep.

I did gain a small bit of space. We had a 27-inch tube tv in a large entertainment center we got from my parents. Every year Mike suggests that we get a new tv; on Tuesday, with his help, we did. The 32-inch device fits in the front of the space for the old tv. We can lower the shelf with the cable box and clock so we can also put other things there that will create space in one of the side shelves. We can also put things behind the tv if we do not need to get at them often. The tv is very light, and has Roku streaming built in. I plan to watch something tonight via my Amazon Prime account.

This does not mean I will get rid of my dvds, or cease to buy them. I like to own my music and movies so they do not disappear, but I will probably buy less when I can watch them first to see if they are worth keeping.
