Weekend Uncluttering

How has your uncluttering gone this weekend?

I have been excavating the kitchen table (again) as well as sorting suitcases a mere week and a bit after our arrival home from interstate. I have filled the inside bin twice over with paper and scraps and dead envelopes (there have been a large number of online purchases arriving). Sadly, I think there have been no items identified for reuse or regifting, just for recycling/rubbish. So, more maintenance than progress, but the place is tidier!

A pair of shoes into handmedowns and I gave 4 things to a secondhand store, including that jacket I was pondering earlier this week. I feel confident that the person who gave me the jacket would be pleased with the store and the charity it supports. That helps. I think she's rather have it sent along than hang in my closet, unused for an embarrassing number of years.

Well done, it may be maintenance rather than progress but look at the other way - maintenance is progress - getting rid of it now stops it becoming clutter later and getting lost in the welter of things that need to be dealt with!

I've not done a lot, a couple more DVDs and a few books (more than expected as I took a bold move and got rid of some that I'd originally planned on keeping, but while I enjoyed them at the time, realistically I've no intention of reading them again and no one else is going to, so given I need room to rehouse other books and I know someone I can usefully give these to a further 5 titles and a story telling kit have been identified for leaving the house. I also came across a few bits of paper/card that could go as I was tidying and found a few other things that I'm donating either to a charity shop or to a school (as appropriate) nothing huge. Just little steps.

Too true on the maintenance now stops clutter later. I need to spend more time working on that. Good job on identifying that you aren't going to read those books again and moving them on -- I hate trying to make that decision (although the 'will anyone else read this' is getting easier as my kids get older and have distinctive reading patterns).
