mid-week uncluttering

How is the uncluttering going this week?

I'm travelling again, but this time I'm staying somewhere with reliable wifi! Uncluttering in the last couple of days was just getting rid of paperwork that had become scrap/out of date/irrelevant.

I'm going to deliver to Goodwill my wine glasses. I don't hardly drink wine, or much of any alcohol honestly (and what I do drink tends to be "ounce of honey-flavored vodka, ounce of creme de cacao, cup of chocolate milk, pour into coffee mug and stir"). My sister-roommate drinks lots wine, but she likes and thus owns stemless wine glasses. My wine glasses have stems. And the person who gave them to me is unlikely ever to be invited into my apartment for drinks, because I don't socialize with coworkers outside work, and will therefore never know that I have got rid of part of her housewarming gift! And yeah, the design on the glasses matches that on bowls I intend to keep, but whoever acquires the set of glasses at Goodwill doesn't need to know that...

...I recognize that having to justify to myself the ability to make my unused property leave my apartment forever is part of my problem here...

I work through a similar justification process before sending things on their way too. To me, it's truly considering if this thing will be used and letting it go. Enjoy the space freed up--even that small bit in the cabinet is good progress!

I think that the justification process can be valuable to work through, because it allows you to explicitly check off the list of 'do I use it, can I readily replace it if I need it, do I love it, what will it change if I get rid of it'.

And if it leads to things leaving, rather than staying because you don't think you should have to justify yourself to yourself and then you don't get rid of things, then it is a net positive.

Also - congrats on finding a thing to rehome!

I packed up (neverending!) handmedowns for a friend. They aren't ready to go yet, but the corner looks much nicer now.

It is no longer mid-week but I do not care.

holiday_wishes means I just packed up a round dozen never-used, never-apparently-going-to-be-used items to mail off to someone whose life they will hopefully make more joyous. Woot!

Wonderful! I hope that the recipient gets at least as much pleasure from receiving them as you do for getting them out of your house.
