Weekend uncluttering

How did your weekend go? Did you sneak some stealthy uncluttering in to a spare few minutes, or did you go all out on something you've been eyeing off for a while?

Me? I spent most of my weekend at an ice-skating competition (apart from my kid competing, I'm also in training to be the set up person for the new judging tech). So my decluttering was limited to a bit of paperwork here and there. ...which actually, has been the theme of my week, although the amount of paperwork dealt with each day has varied from 'a couple of pieces of paper' to 'filled the inside bin three times over'.

I fiddles with fanfic on my new computer; trying to decide how to sort fanfic and ebooks - authors, some sort of topic, format, likelyhood of rereading, fandoms outside of topic, source, - I have made no decision. I like the topic idea, but I am fully capable of creating so many groups and sub-groups that I will not be able to find anything. This is always my problem with sorting books and paper articles, and it is much worse with ebooks.

So far I have created folders for fandoms, but I have a fair amount that will only have one or two items in each folder. This pushes me in the direction of topics, with books separate from fanfiction. Then, of course, there is what do I put on my readers, and how do I keep track of that? Decisions are not happening.

You seem to have done well; "filled inside bin 3 times" sounds like substantial achievement.

The day I filled the bin three times was a tad exhausting, and the piles of paper still to be sorted still cover the table!

I sort my fic by fandom, and I keep it separate from other ebook type things. In the larger fandoms, I used to then subset by rating, but I mostly don't bother any more. I figure it doesn't matter if I only have one thing in a folder, because I can usually remember what the fandom is better than I can remember other details. And I have just given up and made a crossovers folder, so that I don't have to make decisions on that. My ebooks are mostly sorted by source (judging, hugos) and whether I've read them or not.

Thanks for the fanfic organizing suggestions. We all seem to have different needs there; at least partly it seems to depend of haow many fandoms we keep, and what influences the keeping of fanfic outside our fandoms. Tricky thing to work on, sometimes. I like you icon - very appropriate for this topic.

I don't know that it counts but I did clean out the fridge, so I'm now divested of quite a few leftovers. (Boxes with tiny bits of cheese or left-over cooked veg, bottles and jars with just a tiny amount of sauce remaining.) Other than that, I sorted some paperwork and in doing so recycled a lot of paper.

Cleaning out the fridge absolutely counts. It is one of those perennials, where if you don't keep on top of it, it gets horrid. I'm side-eyeing the freezer(s) which desperately need cleaning out and restocking (I found mulberries from last season. I'd be eating fresh ones, if I remembered to go out to the tree in daylight hours)

I packed up a box of handmedowns for a friend and made another pile of handmedowns I need to sort. We snuck some kid artwork out of the house--3-5 pages of artwork a day adds up fast.

Good job with the hand-me-downs! I sympathise on artworks. My younger two were adamant about keeping everything for years. And then one end-of-school year, they both took to however many years worth of artworks and sorted and threw and sorted and threw -- they filled the 240L recycling bin in about 36 hours!

A major decision was made; we're having a yard sale. Now to hunt up all the fodder for it.
