weekend reports

How goes the mission?

I had a pretty good weekend. I sold a thing to the consignment store and was able to buy a needed thing. The thing they didn't buy from me was added to the donation bag. One child and I went through some clothes and whatever Child didn't want was added to the donation bag, which was donated later that day. A small bag, but still things gone.

Spouse went through the school paperwork and recycled a bit. The bin has been put away, the papers have been recycled.

This weekend and growth spurts brought time to go through some clothing for the kids. Some clothes were added to the handmedown box, some were thrown out. At the rate we're going, the handmedown box should be filled in the next week or two, depending on the willingness of Child to go through a closet!

I've got a thing ready to ship to a friend later this week. And we have only two padded envelopes left, a small one and a priority mail envelope so it's just chilling in the drawer.

I also went through the pantry a bit, pulled a few things, combined a few things, threw out a few things.

is probably very much time to cull wardrobe

also to read piles of unopened mail and get rid of whatever isn't needed

It really, really does. And anything vaguely financey is Stress!

...so are pen pal things, which is weird...

I went through my underwear drawer—not, I must note, the clean laundry, folded or unfolded, or the hamper; I'll come back to those—and chucked all the panties in the smaller size. Those are the older and more–ill-fitting ones, so.

Well done! Hopefully there's now room to put some of the clean stuff away more easily?

And good luck with making more progress culling clothes and paper!

I think I've now culled all the ill-fitting panties?

I didn't get much done this weekend. Need to find homes for some unbuilt models and unopened toys - I expect the thrift stores will be happy for the latter, at least. I tried giving the former to a game store, but that fell through for some good reasons.

New paint is tested and working, as it blends nicely with living-room paint. That is not true of the kitchen. I'm left muttering at the person who decided painting the interior in four distinct shades of tan (that look the same! until one has been patched with Obviously The Wrong Tan) was a good idea, and contemplating painting /all the things/ a single, consistent color.

The paint issue sounds very frustrating. I hope you find a good solution.

And fingers crossed for finding a home quickly for those items, now you've identified they need to go.

I haven't been making much progress since the new year. But, I was putting away laundry on Sunday morning, and I ended up doing a bit of reorganisation and cull of my clothes:

* I've been doing some careful shopping recently so now I have more than enough clothes that actually look good on me

* So I deliberately pulled out some of the duplicate items (I have a habit of buying two of things I both like and fit well) to put in storage for when their twins are wearing out

* And I pulled out some merely "ok" clothes that are now surplus to requirements, and put them in a bag for the charity shop

* And I pulled out, folded neatly, and put into storage a number of clothes which are currently *just* too small to be flattering, so they wouldn't taunt or tempt me

A bit later on, I took the bag to the local charity shop, along with two more that have been languishing under the stairs for a good couple of months.

Wow, it sounds like you've made oodles of progress in the last couple of days! Especially well done in getting the new bag of donations and the bags that have been "languishing" out of the house and to the charity shop. :-)

Sounds like you made at least some progress in a LOT of areas - great job! Yay for Spouse putting some time in on weeding out the papers; and fingers crossed Child is willing to tackle some of the closet. :-)

No real progress over the weekend on my part, but I did pull some linens out and into a place where I can take a proper look through them in the next few days. (They were last gone through a couple of years ago.)

Thank you for making the post! My weekend was consumed with attempting to help a friend with a sewing project, and involved buying more craft materials, because closing down sale. Nothing out that I'm aware of, except things already bookmarked to go actually going to their next home.

Things actually going to their next home is a very important part of the process! It's the one I personally struggle with most, just for practical/transport reasons. So well done on that. :-)

I hope you enjoy using up the craft materials you bought in the sale!

I sympathise on the practical/transport reasons. My preferred op-shop is outside of my usual travels, but it is one that I'm keen to support, so sometimes things sit in the hall for weeks. I think I might have found a point in the week where I can add in a detour, and have now made another drop off there!
