mid-week uncluttering

How is everyone going with their midweek uncluttering?

If I have found anything big, I have forgotten it, although there appear to be more items in the 'for the op-shop' pile than there were, so maybe the kids have been helping. What I have discovered is that everyone around here is uncluttering, and several op-shops are turning away donations, so I think I'll leave them in the hall for now!

This morning though, I went through my pile of papers (the small one on the table, not the big 'for later' one in the spare room) and extracted all the obvious to do lists. I got more than half of them read through, and the remaining relevant tasks transcribed in to Trello or Habitica, as appropriate, and then the lists binned! The jobs still need doing, but at least the paper isn't taking up space on my table any more!

Nothing's left yet, just offering some things on fb. I imagine I'll have to take them to the consignment store soon, which will take forever because the buyer is only there on Thursdays this month.

Been mostly doing other things, but I was poking around in my hanging files for unrelated reasons, and saw a few things that were useless/out of date, so they've gone out!! Need to go through and check everything, honestly - I'm sure there're some tax returns I can throw out now, for example!

I'm lucky - all of my tax returns have been The Most Straightforward Type, AND have been done online since that came in as the new standard, so there's very little LEFT in that file. Just need to go through and check what's past its seven-year mark (which is when the tax office stops caring, here. Or at least stops wanting you to store your records). So it should be pretty straightforward, honestly.

But if you have anything even slightly more complicated, oh man I bet that's a nightmare. *hugs, tea and/or booze as appropriate?*

A big box out, some Sentimental Clothing(tm) sorted and some gotten rid of. And some kept.

The specialty goods that couldn't find homes got chucked, because I was at the end of my rope with them.

We're in mid-move. Lots of furniture out that will not be coming back in the door.

My focus has mostly been on other things than uncluttering, but I've pulled a few more items out of the spare room and stowed them in appropriate places in preparation for them actually going out of the house. Also a bit of paperwork has been filed and a box has been designated for gathering together paperwork to be shredded (and half filled).

I set aside a few pairs of socks that have seams that hurt my toes to take next time I go to the thrift shop.

I've also put a bunch of DVDs in our binder, so I have a box of DVD cases to donate to the library. I did this a few years ago when we first got the binder and found 3 libraries in my county that were super appreciative of the donation since they have tiny budgets, so I'll see who can use them this time.

I have a bit of time to knit and crochet now, so I'm making cat beds for my own cats and also making beds to donate. It's a nice way to destash yarns I'm not too fond of. I used up a skein last night and will probably use all of the skeins of Fun Fur I bought for my big kitty, Stuart's bed. Once I'm done with this bed, I'll see what yarns I think my new permanent foster kitty Miles will like. He's tiny, so I won't need nearly as much for him as I do for Stuart.

Well done on all you've done so far and on having plans for dealing with yarn stashes! good luck with the cat beds

Another 2 DVDs have gone. I've gone through the last two year's paperwork on a first pass - and relegated 2016 to envelopes to get stashed in the box in the loft, and 2017's has been culled to get rid of duplicates and then moved to files saying 'Previous year' so 'current year' files are now ready for 2018 use. The plan was to tackle tax returns but realised I'm still waiting on bank info that will include parts of last year but have most things ready for the process so hopefully it will be relatively straightforward.

Not a lot of visible progress this week, but I did do bits, so I'm counting it a win.

I've sorted paperwork as well, and discovered that it's been a year since I last did *winces* I've kept up with anything that needed doing, just not filed anything away properly.

So that's all sorted, a bunch of paper shredded, a bunch to recycling and the rest filed away where I can find it when I need it. I've cleared anything over three years old out of my current file and moved it to my archive box - next task is to go through the archive box and get rid of anything over 10 years old (unless it's still relevant).
