Sunday uncluttering

How does today's uncluttering go?

It will probably surprise absolutely no-one that I have been sorting paper again. This time, I think that I have found all of the banking statements, and so Friday I took the relevant paperwork to the accountant. Yesterday I tidied up some of the piles that I had left lying around. Today, I didn't touch anything, but I have identified two files that can be pruned of items >10 years old.

I have also been sorting electronic clutter - I added all my ebooks to iBooks, and have now read two of them!

I took three bags of paper recycling out to the dump/recycling center yesterday, when I took my mother to drop off her recycling (rural residents don't have pickup, they have to do their own drop-offs). I still have about half a milk-crate to shred/sort, but I'm getting there.

I've also read three books from my to-read pile and one was really good and the other two can get donated back to the library.

I've been keeping the living room sofa and chairs relatively cleared off, which has always been a struggle.

Well done on keeping the sofa and chairs cleared. There's a huge difference between tackling specific decluttering projects and just preventing new clutter, and the new stuff can often be harder, in my experience. So congrats on managing that!

Thank you! It's just so easy to come home and dump everything on a chair and then... not get back to it right away. ^^;; It's been a slow habit to break, but I'm getting there.

I've been away on holiday, so the past week since I got back has been about sorting out and putting away the Holiday Stuff. Which is all done, so I'm feeling very accomplished. (Also, All The Laundry, which I am still working on, but what's been washed and dried so far is already all put away.)

I need to figure out what to tackle next in terms of long-term uncluttering, but I'm allowing myself to feel ridiculously pleased that I keep being able to walk past an area of cleared floor space that's stayed clear (and hasn't yet again immediately been used as a staging area for stuff pulled from elsewhere) and think "hey, I'm actually making some real progress on this uncluttering project!"

Keeping an area clear is a great accomplishment! Good for you. :)

Yes, the satisfaction of cleared space that stays clea. It encourages more action because you can see the results and even if you use it a a staging area again you know you can clear it because you have done it before. Enjoy your space and achievement.

I added two shirts to the bag for the thrift shop, emptied a cardboard box and flattened it for tomorrow's recycling, and picked up some magazines and random papers, also for recycling. And packed up a gift for a friend that I've had sitting around for months, hopefully will mail it tomorrow.

I haven't done any major uncluttering projects in a while, and realistically I probably won't until I have an extra day off work. But it feels good to have some small areas better organized.

Well done with keeping going with the small stuff (especially the gift for your friend!) -- it all adds up/stops the clutter creeping back.

A carful of stuff leaving tomorrow! A donation to two secondhand stores (I donate to several places), shipping a thing to a friend tomorrow, recycling all the things! I gave some handmedowns to a friend. AND I did the mending pile (5 items) today before it got out of control--those 5 items are the from the last two weeks' activities from the children.

I'm taking a thing to the tailor tomorrow to get it fixed so I can finish the latest box of handmedowns for a friend--may be able to ship that in the next few weeks. I'll do my best to make sure the only things I bring home from errands tomorrow are the lost item I'm retrieving and the potential new office chair that is more like a unicorn than I had realized!

-spouse took down spare land rover tires from the shed rafters and send the specs to my dad, who can use them as replacements for his suburban - but they won't go until the holidays. at least we don't have to look at them!

-sorted all my dead socks and undies (TMI!). they're not out of the house yet - upcycled quilt? (joke)

-up next: slow mini netbook that needs wiped, then can e-cycle with ibook g4
