Weekend Uncluttering

How goes you weekend sorting of things?

A fortuitous combination of long weekend, mild summer weather, partner away for Saturday and part of Sunday, and no kids extracurriculars on Saturday came together with a good night's sleep on Friday for me to decide that it was Time! to deal with the spare room. After a flurry of moving things around, moving things out, and sorting through boxes, I have a large number of items to rehome. Some are valuable enough to sell, which is going to be a bit tedious, but useful. Some have been offered on the local Buy Nothing group, and a collection of yarn and a pile of kids clothing have already been requested.

And it has come with a stack of wins. The spare room is possibly going to be useable again! I was able to get some items back in the wardrobe in the back corner, so they aren't in the way. I've found a set of things I *knew* I had and didn't know where to look, and all the plastic tubs I've sorted through so far (about 12, 3 now empty) have one category of thing in and are labelled. Sure, one of those labels is 'Chaos', because it is everything else, but the though is there.

Congrats on getting several steps closer to a usable spare room!

The cleaning I did this weekend didn't result in much uncluttering, just 2 more books.

2 books is better than no books! I hope you're enjoying your cleaned home. :-)

I finally finished off a shampoo and conditioner I didn't particularly like, just to get rid of them. They worked well enough, just not my usual stuff. So those are gone. And I've been working on eating what's in the pantry and the freezer. Small progress in the pantry. I'll have to find new recipes for baking next week!

Ooh, small wins! Those can be pretty satisfying. :-) I hope you discover some fun and tasty new recipies.

Oh, that's some awesome progress on the spare room (and finding things!) -- well done!

I finally acknowledged that a craft project sitting in a box on a shelf was not going to get done (a lot of the original reason for doing it has gone), so I sent various bits of it back into the craft stash, put the box ready for recycling, and no longer have to look at the box and feel guilty!

I also went through the collection of old plastic pots/lids that I've been using for storing food in the freezer for a very long time and put quite a few into the recycling. (I've bought myself some nice square tubs with clip-on lids that take up much less space to store the same amount of food, so this was a bit of a one-in-one-out -- but I did do the "out" part fairly speedily!)

So 2018's goal for me was to clear out the garage. That didn't happen even a little bit, so I rolled it over into this year, and I'm so proud that I've managed to get rid of a decrepit old rocking chair last week, and two sawhorses that some contractor left here four years ago went out today. (I gave them to another contractor.) \0/

While said contractor has been making repairs in my kitchen today, I managed to go through a pile of pens, test them and throw out those that didn't work, and got rid of some other miscellany as well.

Congrats on your progress with your spare room. \0/

testing pens is one of my favorite tasks. Mindless and productive!

Oh, that's great news on the rocking chair and sawhorses! Good luck with continuing to make progress. And good on you for being kind to your future self by minimising the chance of encountering non-working pens. :-)
