Mid-week uncluttering

How goes your decluttering on this fine Wednesday?

Hopefully the rest of you are having weather more suited to your physical needs - we've had a series of stinkers, and I'm desperate for a cool night and a deep sleep. However, that didn't stop me decluttering on Monday, which was a public holiday. After my weekend of shopping and napping, I woke up raring to go, and headed in to the Spare Room Disaster Zone. I moved Stuff, and I sorted Stuff, and I threw out an old washing basket that wouldn't hold washing (but was holding junk), and reams of papers (seriously, how was there a stash of papers from 2013-4 that didn't get found in last years paper sorting bonanza), and some clothes I'm never going to care enough about to do the necessary modifications. I emptied a 120L plastic crate that had been in the garage, and has been moving around the house ever since the garage clean out of last summer. Everything in it got washed. A set of items have been put aside for kids to go through. I filled a small box with items to go to the op-shop. I moved boxes out of common areas into the newly cleared sections of the spare room in such a way that I can still get in, and I can get to every box that is in there in under ten seconds without making a mess!

I have space where I despaired of ever having space again. There is still a long way to go, but it is so lovely to be able to get in the door, and to know that if I'm looking for specific types of objects, they'll be in specific plastic crates.

Oh, and the fig tree in the front garden is gone, bar the stump. Tree lopper came Friday, council truck came Monday and took away green waste for the whole street. So many possibilities!

Congrats! That's an impressive amount of stuff you've taken care of. \o/

I've had two bags of clothing outgoing. One was all PJs and I should be able to sort out another bag or two of PJs again. I'm not sure how I ended up with so many, especially since I'm fairly picky about sleepwear. (Active sleeper, so easy to get bound up in stuff/pin my arms/etc.)

Also had a box of kitchen misc. go to the 'rents to take whenever they go to the Free Store or Habitat or whatever.

Once I spend some time typing up item descriptions, 'rents will also put a bunch of my stuff on eBay for me, so hopefully that will all go too. Maybe I can get on that this weekend.

Nice work on getting so many things out or getting them ready to go out!

Wow, you got so much done! I'm feeling vicarious victory here. Good for you.

We're having a snowstorm here, so my husband is home from work. He's the messiest person in the house, so I'm just trying to muster up some patience as I deal with his unexpected presence and the accompanying chaos. Nothing will be leaving the house today for sure, but my MIL has asked me to come down after lunch to help her with something, so there's a distinct possibility that I'll be gathering up stuff for her to discard in some way.

I hope the snowstorm isn't too bad. Good luck with dealing with the husband-generated chaos and helping your MIL.

That's fantastic progress in the spare room - go you! Also, yay for the fig tree being gone.

I was going to do a little bit of work in the garage today, but as I woke up with unexpectedly intense back pain (and no idea what I'd done to make it hurt so much), that seemed like a bad idea.

Instead, I spent 10 minutes on some stuff stored in my office, as that's the other area I'm looking to do work on. I've already worked through it two or three times, so I'm not expecting to find masses of stuff to get rid of, but I know there's stuff in there that I'm going to be willing to let go of this time.

Today, I tackled a box of board and card games and jigsaws, having already got rid of maybe 90% of the stuff I inherited from my mum several years ago. I'm not sure how likely I am to use what I've kept or who I'll play the games with, but it's little enough that I'm prepared to give it house room.

This time I found two items for donation: a set of chess pieces (apparently I'd already got rid of the board that I thought was in there...! And if I want to play chess again, I'll probably get an app.) and a jigsaw that I've done two or three times and enjoyed but am unlikely to do again.

I'm also throwing away the four of the seven decks of playing cards I'd kept, and holding on to the three that are unused or barely used. (Really, past self, why did you think you needed SEVEN decks??) And I took the Monopoly set out of the falling-apart box and bagged up the pieces and put the box in the recycling. It'll take up a lot less space and I'm probably less likely to lose bits!

Wow, what great progress!

I've placed the chair and the donation box (with 3-4 things in it) in the car so drop off today. It was a busy weekend so I'm pleased with SOME action.

Good going on getting things to the next stage of into the car -- hope you're successful in dropping them off today.
