Mondays

 Hey folks

My children went back to school this week and I again have Mondays clear to do things.

I was thinking that I would try and do one uncluttering task every week and set an intention for next Monday at the same time

Anyone else in? Obviously you could do a different day

Today I uncluttered our swimming things box and took a bag of outgrown swimming costumes and flotation aids to the charity shop.

Next week I am going to tackle the kids summer clothing

I love this!

I don't have a regular clear day I could do things, but what might work for me (if you don't mind) is to treat your Monday post as a prompt to find a time in the week where I can do some decluttering, and set an intention for it.

Tomorrow is my last day off work. I will spend an hour in the morning doing the Dana K White decluttering steps around my house. Priority order of rooms: mine, living room, study, N's room, C's room. (DKW method: take out all the rubbish/recycling, take out stuff that should be donated, take things back to where they should live)

I did an hour and tackled my room and N's (because study and living room were occupied). I pulled out probably 3 bagfuls of rubbish/recycling, and returned a bunch of things to where they belong, and filled a bag of stuff to probably-giveaway (need to double check with N when he's back from school). The Pile of Misc Stuff that has been living on/near my bed for the last six months is down to a small pile of things that need some actual effort from me, but is somewhere more sensible than my bed, and a bedside notebook. N's room needs more work but is an improvement on what it was.

The last 15 minutes I didn't want to do any more work in N's room, so I sat down and mended two pairs of socks, so they could stop being a sad mending pile on my bed and are back to being socks in my sock drawer. I also took the note of the floss picks the dentist recommended and actually looked them up and ordered some, so now I can throw that note away now.

I like this idea! Monday's usually busy enough with work that I can't do a whole lot of other things, but if the goal is to declutter/tidy either something that's in my bedroom office, or something I can bring into it like a bin, that would be a great low-attention thing I can do during work. Thanks for sharing it!

I took this as the motivation to go through a pile of paper on my desk, put away the things that needed to go in my paperwork binder, and email the person who borrowed my shredder!

I love that you have a free day that you can devote to whatever you want - and you are decluttering! Good idea to start with the summer things, way to go and good luck for next week!

You inspired me to grab a big stack of paper that needed to be shredded, hauled out the gadget and turned all that paper into a full trash bag of confetti. Yay!

Wow, very cool that the post inspired you declutter and you even ended up with a fun bag of confetti, yay! :D

Sounds great, I am in! I think my day per week would have to be different each week as I am a shift worker.

My day this week is going to be Wednesday and I want to take a pic and then post on my flatshare group that everyone please empty their stuff out of my book shelves in the living room (except for some stuff that we all use) and set a date for when I am going to get rid of everything that is left. I have a feeling that the majority of the stuff is not owned by anyone still living here... and two flatmates have said they think the same, haha. If I still have oomph afterwards, I want to start decluttering my own bookshelves with particular look toward books that can go the public bookshelves in the city.

I'm in residential right now but could definitely do with a cleaning/tidying day for the dorm room.

And touch ups with decluttering whenever someone's back at the apartment...

I'm not working at the moment, so am attempting to do some decluttering every day, although in little bites.

But I think I need to have a 'get things out of the house' day, because the pile of things to leave the house is getting silly!

We used to have weekly checkin posts for the group -- would you be interested in posting on a Monday to get us all to comment? Or would it work better for you if someone else posts (day of the week then dependent on circumstances). Because I'd be happy to have weekly posts, and am willing to do some of those.

We could take turns? If you do Monday check in posts for, say, a month, and then I'll do a month. One of the other communities I was in used to get people to sign up for a month at a time, and that worked really well.

I’ve been busy assisting my mother with an interview for possibly receiving outside help around the house, so I’m going to do some of the laundry tomorrow, then decide which autumn and winter tops I want to keep.

Edit: One thing the interviewer did was review Mom’s medications, so I dissolved some expired tablets into vinegar.

I’ll probably also clean the top of my dresser and nightstand again. Hopefully my clothes rack can stay where it is so I don’t have to move a bookcase to have enough room to hang additional clothes.
