Friday Report

I have not done much on the unclutter front this week. I took 4 books to the B2P workroom, but that's about it on getting things out of the house. I am spending a lot of time on the couch with a book - the lazy late summer activity. I plan to run the shredder for a while this evening, and tomorrow we have to go to a great-niece's wedding, and help my sister get our mother and my sister's mother-in-law, who live in the same nursing home, down to the big activity room where the wedding will be held. This place was chosen because it was cheap and would make it easy to bring two women in wheelchairs. Then there is the reception, with about 120 people. I expect to be exhausted when we get home.

I will get back to the declutter work next week - probably more work with books and LibraryThing.

Four books is still four things, which is more than half of a week's worth of one every day!

I hope the wedding goes beautifully, and smoothly as well.

Yes, 4 books is not nothing, but I hope to start moving more out soon.

The wedding went well enough - my sister who organized a lot of it, is glad it is over.

Last night, I finished sorting my yard sale inventory in the basement and boxing up decorations to donate. My husband took the mini fridge and old dishwasher out of the basement and was going to put both in the car to take them to the metal recycling place this morning, but our neighbor asked if he could have the mini fridge, so there's one less thing to worry about.

Good work. Basements accumulate Stuff. I remember trying to clear out my in-law's basement. I do not think they got rid of much. We found ice skates no one had used for 30 years, but there was no thought of every giving them away. We found books B's father bought in used book stores in the early 1940s, and on into the 50s. He chose carefully, and economically, but they lived in the basement for all of B's life.

I've sold two things this week, and just now listed two more things for sale.

Onward! I am impressed that you Sell Things. I am afraid I just move them on, usually via donations, because I do not think I can keep them around while they sell - I might just give up in the wait.

It takes a while to sell some things, and I'm picky about what I sell. So far, some things have sold quickly, while two things have hung around for weeks. At least those two things are out of the way.

I have listed 2 old duvets on freecycle and someone is coming to pick them up on Monday.

The wedding was entertaining; I recognized none of the music played; a friend of the groom ran downloaded music through speakers. What I heard of the lyrics seemed sort of related to the event, but I knew none of it. Age catches up with everyone; I am 72, Zenna is 21. We really live in different worlds.

Wow! I am impressed that people actually can move things on by freecycle or sales. I may have to look for a way to sell my mother's lap harp. It has been sitting in my living room for about 10 years, behind a couch. It is probably shear laziness that keeps me from dealing with it.

I used to have a lot of luck with Freecycle -- about 1 in 10 either wouldn't go at all, or the people wouldn't show up, but I got rid of so much stuff that would otherwise be unmovable. And then it moved to Facebook, and I just gave up (everyone puts photos on things, and argh, that is too much commitment).

I suspect there would be any number of people interested in the lap harp, although whether they would be willing to pay an appropriate amount of money might be a different thing. There may well be appropriate groups around where you can advertise it -- around here, I would try the Irish Club :)
