Does it have to be our own stuff? I got rid of some of my daughter's old toys today.

Count whatever you like! Whatever is helpful for you, absolutely. I've counted my kids' stuff, especially if I've spent 2 hours on the floor of a disastrous bedroom helping the clean up.

My hope for us is that we can have a common purpose, and each find our own most useful way of counting/making it work. I know the first year I tried the challenge, one of the things that discouraged me in the spring was someone counted her bedding plants as "in" items - somehow the fact that someone else was doing that made me feel like I had to.... and any day I'd spent gardening wasn't a day I'd be sorting through house stuff, especially if I'd put in a new bed and 30 new perennials!! I got caught up in thinking that someone else must have "the right way".

And hooray for getting rid of old toys! They can really pile up.

Oh gosh, I wouldn't count bedding plants as "in" at all. Partly because I don't grow ornamentals -- I only grow things I can eat, and also partly because plants in the garden don't clutter up my living space!

Honestly, I don't even know how I manage to convince myself of some of the rules I make up out of thin air.
