Random tips I've discovered in decluttering over the past few years (yes, I've been at it for years)

-Always have a give away box going. This encourages giving things away--it will only linger in this box until the box is full and away it goes.

-Any other parents here? My kids seem to collect tiny toys that would be thrown away if donated. I have a stash of tiny toys they never play with or kid meal toys they never opened and give them away on Halloween with candy. Allergen friendly!

-Plan B. I tried to sell a thing on craigslist but there were no bites, so I gave it away. I'd rather have the space than the money.

-Pick a challenge area and do it. The linen closet? The medicine cabinet? The fridge? Clean it out and get things on their way.

What's helped you?

Wait, people need kids for this to happen? I don't get trick-or-treaters where I live, but maybe I can find someone to let me share a porch with this year~ It's a good idea.

I end up with tons of little toys from friends, blind bags, fidget stuff while traveling... now I have an idea of how to re-home them when they build up!

Another option is to give them to K-3 teachers for a 'treasures' box for kids to pick from.

For me, the thing I have to keep in mind is the difference between the dream/idea I had when I got something, and the reality. Sometimes, there really is nothing to be done with an item other than put it in the bin -- there is no option for rehoming that works. This makes me sad and stressed, but I'm getting better at it.
