It is very, very chilly here today.

IN: One teenage daughter home from a two month trip overseas, with accompanying luggage, laundry and gifts.

OUT: Whatever was on the floor when I swept under the kitchen table. Tape measure, socks, pencils... I just threw it all away while throttling down the voice saying "But that's still useful!".

My brother's off to the Marines tomorrow - can that count as an out?

Since Thurdsay, I've had:

In: 4 textbooks, 2 magazines, 1 fiction book (7 total)

Out: 3 articles of clothing, 1 beanie baby (4 total)

My running totals then are 10 in, 26 out.

Catching up

We hadn't made much progress over the last week or so due to a death in the family, but I think today we made up for it. We managed to Freecycle:

- Eight puzzles
- Two Zip drives and 17 Zip disks
- 100 floppy diskettes
- Four computer keyboards
- Several VHS movies
- A Sega Genesis system and about 10 games
- USB hub
- A CPU
- Home theatre system

We also have several bags of garbage to go out, including one filled with old pillows and another with old clothes (not good enough to donate.)

Still fighting the battle with the clutter :D

Slow but sure is good right?

A trip to town resulted in some ins

5 pieces of fabric for patchwork
1 pair of slippers

6 in total

As a result, I made a special effort to find some more outs...
14 books (9 to sister, 3 to local school, 1 to a friend and 1 to the bin)
3 videos (charity shop)
3 Nintendo games (1 returned to sister from a loan a long time ago, and the other given to make up for length of time it took me to solve the one she'd leant! and up my out count of course, LOL!)

Total for the outs 20

So previous total is 113 add the outs makes it 133, take away the ins 127 and the next 7 days leaves me with a total of 120 more out than in! Not too shabby?

Totals

This week I have been unpacking and sorting out the things from my mother's house. We had a different family gathering this weekend which resulted in a bit of gift exchange and shopping.

I did 2 specific decluttering exercises this week.

The first was to work through my to-read pile (source of much guilt and angst) with the thought in my head "would I bother to pack this if we had to move house?" That probably took about 30 minutes and culled over 10% of the books.

The second was a reboot of the area where we put shoes/coats/gloves/hats/etc. Read more... ) I think it took me about an hour in total (about 50% of the stuff was mine), and the other two adults about 5-10 minutes each. I filled 2 carrier bags for the charity shop so far.

Total: 28

Totals so far:
In: 144, Out: 230, Net out: 86 on day 23.
